Military ban

We're talking mission readiness, not off duty. The military is one place where standards shouldn't be compromised.
Even so. If a trans does his job but a sergeant finds his appearance disagreeable, why should the sergeant's viewpoint hold sway?

House Republicans were planning to pass a spending bill stacked with his campaign promises, including money to build his border wall with Mexico.
But an internal House Republican fight over transgender troops was threatening to blow up the bill. And House GOP insiders feared they might not have the votes to pass the legislation because defense hawks wanted a ban on Pentagon-funded sex reassignment operations — something GOP leaders wouldn’t give them.

They turned to Trump, who didn’t hesitate. In the flash of a tweet, he announced that transgender troops would be banned altogether.
Trump’s sudden decision was, in part, a last-ditch attempt to save a House proposal full of his campaign promises that was on the verge of defeat, numerous congressional and White House sources said.

Inside Trump’s snap decision to ban transgender troops

You keep trying to deflect by talking about combat roles. It's an all out ban, and from Trump's own tweets, has nothing to do with that at all.
Trump most certainly spoke of the military's ability to do it's job. You want to put openly gay soldiers or women in non-combat roles fine. Having transgender people "transitioning" as well as expecting the military to pay for it is a distraction, and a cost, the military doesn't need.

Everyone in the military is trained for combat first and the lucky ones are sent on to other schools. I ended up being trained as a track vehicle mechanic but ended up in Vietnam as an Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) driver for six months and as the 50 cal. gunner the other six months. I did just about zero maintenance while there. If something broke down we blew it up and they would fly us out what every we needed by Chinook helicopter or Sky-crane.

Not paying for gender transition surgery could have accomplished the goal, instead trump lit the negotiating table on fire like a big baby.

I support the banning of people from all military service but in order to comply with the fair and equal clause, everyone should be banned from all forms of military service.

The culture of the military is always 30 years behind that of the nation. No, they really shouldn't make the decision

should always be made by the military and to point number two the military integrated way before society did.

since you're an expert on this subject did you serve?
