Mitch McConnell: Obstructionist and Corporate Hack

Face it, with a free market, we would have coal power. The blame lies with Obama for destroying all those jobs. Cost him and the Dems everything.

Huh? Even if there was a true free market (there isn't), do you really think we'd go back to 1902, when nearly everything was powered by coal. The US would look like Beijing, where you can't even see the sun on a clear day due to the pollution.

Annoy a liberal today. Hit them with facts.

Why did the coal power plants get shuttered? Why were the coal mines shut down?
It had nothing to do with supply and demand.
It had everything to do with knee jerk political correctness and environmental fears.

Markets, Not Capitalism. Be interesting to watch who screams louder about this. ;)

True to their anarchist roots and in opposition to copyright and IP, Gary Chartier and Charles Johnson have also made the book Markets, Not Capitalism available via open source.

Some facts to back up your made up claims would be nice. We both know they don't exist. Please don't quote some far right source. Sometimes the plants are not cost effective, sometimes they are nothing but pure poison to those around them. How about putting some facts out there, instead of blind thrashing at Obama?

Coal is an incredible polluter, but do you really think that coal would have a bigger presence than it already does in the US? Perhaps you'd like a mine or power plant in your back yard.

Ever hear of google? Google COAL POWER PLANT CLOSING, and try to find 1 that says any coal power plant closed for lack of demand for coal power.
THEN POST IT HERE. But you can't, so you won't.
Because like most current event issues, you are just wrong.

A dumb argument from somebody stupid enough to choose to work for purple, when you could have chosen brown. Says a lot about you.

I did just that. They closed because they were no longer economical, given the drop in demand for electricity. Some closed because they were running at 19th century efficiency levels. Natural gas has closed more coal plants than anything else.

See here for more.

So Dense.
Not economical because of all the governmental environmental regulations.
That means the government shut them down.

Read the studies. Have health and safety regulations had a small part in the evolution of the power industry? Of course they have, but the overpowering factor is the economics. You would have to be extremely 'Dense' to not grasp that basic FACT.

The oldest coal plants that shut down were built in the 1930's and 40's. The median age of the planned closed plants was 49 years old. FACTS.

The fact is that those coal power plants would be open today if a Republican won either of the last 2 presidential elections.
They will re-open most of them after the Republicans take the White House in 2016.

Why shouldn't coal plants follow suit with every other aspect of industry and modernize, with an eye on reducing pollutants?

There are thousands of coal plants that are in violation of basic safety standards, which lead to injuries, deaths, etc. The Federal regulatory agency that deals with these types of misdeeds has no power to enforce it's mandate to 'regulate' these companies.

Workers die, communities get polluted, and there's no recourse.

You were talking about over-regulation? That's a joke.

Yes, regulations are often onerous and sometimes without reason, but often they make perfect sense.

It isn't an either/or scenario.

By your measure we would still have leaded-gas and asbestos, and children under age ten would still be allowed to be employed.

I don't want to live in your world.

You are truly a tool. Or is it a fool. Maybe both. The "war on coal" is a myth.
