Splitting teams being explored. The market works, you are too expensive.

Tampa Bay Rays get OK from MLB to explore split season in Montreal
Bay Rays trying to get leverage for a new stadium. Deal to build one fell apart a few weeks ago. When developers told Peter Ueberroth of their plans to build Tropicana Field Ueberroth told them. "You can build it if you want to but there's no guarantee you'll get a team or that it will survive if do you get one. Faye Vincent on the other hand had the right idea. He wanted to downsize, reduce the number of teams and realign the leagues and divisions not rather than expand and end up with the mess you have today. Montreal, Pittsburgh Oakland were among the 3 publicly targeted. Montreal, Phoenix, Tampa, and Miami are not baseball towns.

These stadium deals are usually bad for the taxpayer.
It requires strong support from a large enough fan base and an ownership group that is willing to spend the money needed to put a winner on the field. Remember most sports facilities that are publicly owned are leased from stadium authorities by the sports venue occupying them. As long as the terms are met how does the taxpayer actually lose?

Can you be more specific? Given the lease payments, parking fees, amusement taxes and sales taxes? When Jeffrey Dorfman in his article said that a ticket to the Super Bowl costs $35 (LMAO) I knew right away he was a "Dorf" and had no idea what he was talking about when he tried to tell people how to spend their discretionary income. Good luck with that. That's walk around money people will spend anyway they like and his effort to slot that money in a way that according to his beliefs would better serve the general population is just stupid.
