Did the math and the first 9 months as a package specialist of preload operations have worked out to about $6/hr not including coffee and the alcoholism due to literally having a supervisor with Asperger's.

  • hours 773.65, est. 190 work days
  • gross earnings... $8857 (11.45/hr)
  • transportation... $1900 (drive a Jeep, don't ask)
  • taxes... $1056
  • union fees... $498
  • boots, destroyed clothes, 18 pairs of gloves... $500
  • used iPhone 5S destroyed in work bag... $300
  • united way scam... $36
  • net earnings... $4565 (5.90/hr)
And you're likely to have a mental breakdown and quit before you get health insurance. Only masochists work here. Most of your coworkers smoke and drink, many have DUIs, some are ex-cons. Half the drivers say ":censored2:ing" in every sentence, clearly happy people. But it gets you up in the morning, you'll keep your job forever unless you steal or punch a supervisor, and for some reason the public respects you.

Edit: Forgot to factor in the time forced to work off the clock and stolen hours. Brings it down to $5.61/hr.

Yep and that was the situation about a month ago according to a Feeder yard jockey that was on the premises at the time.

The conversation started with me asking why is there no yelling at the hourlies that is common in other buildings. And then he told me that management doesn't want to scare off the few workers that are actually in the building

Why do you work off the clock?

Why do you work off the clock?

Previously a staggered start time with packages piling up beforehand and a supervisor who'd have me come in, work a half hour, send me home, then put it in the system as a "layoff" ie. no hours. As soon as I knew better and was building a case against him, I was transferred to a better position where they've even been paying me in full from when I arrive early to when I clock out.

There's no point in making waves right now. This supervisor was demoted for stealing hours and he's still doing it. Everyone knows. Clearly the union steward isn't working for us. I just tell new hires about what he's doing and how to access their time card.
