Canadian unemployment rate falls to 7.4 per cent, as 22,300 jobs added in May

OTTAWA - Canada's unemployment rate has fallen to the lowest level in more than two years as a combination more jobs and fewer people actively seeking work in May pushed the rate to 7.4 per cent.

Statistics Canada said 22,300 new jobs were created last month, slightly above consensus following the previous month's strong 58,000 gain.

The last time Canada's employment rate was as low as 7.4 per cent was in January 2009, a few months after the economy had been plunged into the deep global recession.

The lowest level in two years. And yet..........

Moreluck, let me explain it this way :

If you were a tiny nation, lets say California as it's own country, but with even less population, and you were the USA's largest trading partner (larger then China, Germany).
Wouldn't you somewhat be dependent on how well your neighbor and trading partner is doing ?

And that explains this.................??............................."That's the 2 years of Obama !" :)

Yup, no matter what you say, but Obama faced a great depression, and the largest recession. He pulled out of it.
I don't care if it's going to slow for you, but Americans see growth (not a recession).... and that's what matters.
He created jobs, while when he took office jobs were vanishing by a 3/4 million per month.

Slow growth is better then what you had !

Hey, when Bush left office, how much was a share of UPS ? $46 ? You can have that back, just vote as expected.

We have 2 million LESS jobs since Obama took office.....that's some backward Canadian math you have there. The recovery here is beyond slow....it's non existent.

And who has Canada to blame, or England, Ireland, the UK as a whole, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, (all of Europe) ?

It was a global recession, and it was created by the USA, and before Obama's presidency.

Should I blame PM Harper now, that we still have less jobs then before the recession ?
Should England and other countries do the same with their pm's or presidents ?

Nope, we call it "sh.t happens" and lets all work together to fix it, and tighten our belts if we need (thru higher taxes & cut-backs) and move ahead.
The average American household paid off more personal debt in this crises then ever before, but are ofcourse unwilling to pay debt towards their nation.
They blame that on the President.
,
Get real, if you want to make America strong , again, then help pay off some of the debt, like other countries are doing.
By the time the US has to pay, the rest of the world will have their act togther, and earning surpluses (like Canada in 3 more years).

Obama is not familiar with the term...."tighten your belt". People have been trying to tell him, but he thinks more spending is the solution. You say tighten belt is the fix, and still praise Obama and he's not tightening anything but his golf grip !!

Well, he wanted to make healthcare cheaper for everyone, but reps are against it.
He wanted to cut the tax breaks for the rich, but the reps don't want it.

He did cut military spending back along with NASA spending.

Lets see in the future if any of those 2 parties ever agree on something, that actually reduces spending.

Well, he wanted to make healthcare cheaper for everyone, but reps are against it. His health care is actually probably 10x more costly than what he said...so he lied!

We'll find out Aug 2nd.

Just so you get things straight about our gov't.......The Democrats like to spend and want to increase the debt ceiling and spend some more.......and the Republicans want to cut spending to pay down the deficit and be more responsible like homeownwers with a budget.

More, Canadians have Metric Politics. He`s probably talking kilo-jobs versus American jobs.

Then why wasn't that policy done under Bush ? Or was he a liberal ?
