Part time poverty

Coca-Cola and pepsi fulltime top out at at around 25 an hour. Kroger doesn't promote anybody to full time anymore. And Costco starts at 11 an hour and they don't come close to what we make fulltime. My wife just applied to Costco and it was 11 an hour. 2 drivers I currently work with. One used to work for pepsi the other for coke. Both jumped ship at the chance to work here as full time drivers because the pay sucked at the other places. My neighbor works for the food services union. The largest union in Washington. He told me they do not promote people to full time at Kroger anymore. Notice a trend. All these places have better starting wages for part timers and junk for full time.
Ummmmm... minimum wage is 11.50

You will soon reach their same pay rate. That makes it friendly banter. But a guy making $100k talking about guys making under $10k gives that same conversation a bit of an edge to it.

The older guys not recognizing what's happening with the younger is why a guy can work 10 years and still take home less than the old guy on his very first day. The ignorance of the old guys is used to perpetuate the crappy pay and such for new guys, which is the kind of thing that will eventually divide and weaken the union, and thus be bad for all of us.

Even getting one to recognize "Yeah, I took home a lot more cash than these guys do" is like pulling teeth from an alligator. Very little good will happen long-term for the union when old guys look at part-timers with disdain and contempt.
The 2 tiered wage for part timers happened in the 80's. What is your obsession with it now? It was here before you were at ups.

Your right. A thousand pardons. It was 11 an hour 6 months ago.

Well, I'm off to bed. Another 12 hour day between 2 jobs starts tomorrow at 2:30am and ends after 6pm. If that's "entitlement" as you call it, I have no idea what you guys expect from anyone.
The last 2 years I was part time. I worked from 5:00pm until 9:00 or 10:00am.

They roughly cut starting pay in half over 30 years. It's kinda hard to think how that wouldn't matter.

$9 an hour in 1982 = $24 now

Yep. I was underselling it a bit because most of the older guys are more in the 20-30 year range, rather than 35+. I was trying to keep it to where a lot of current guys were when they started to draw the comparison. Obviously, by your username, you're higher along that spectrum :)

But you're absolutely right. And you're also the first guy with that much seniority that I've seen plainly acknowledge that.
