To “honor the dignity and work of immigrants,” Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi helps Bishop Marc Andrus wash the feet of two children Thursday at Saint John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in San Francisco.
Pelosi also used the occasion to talk about passing HR15 – bipartisan immigration legislation that her office says would “reduce the deficit by nearly $1 trillion, secure our borders, unite our families, protect our workers and provide an earned pathway to citizenship.”
The Democratic leader’s ceremony coincides with Pope Francis’ similar ceremony in Rome to mark Holy Week. As he did last year, the pope broke with the tradition of washing only priests’ feet during the Mass for the Last Supper – this time, washing the feet of disabled people.

Could it have something to do with the fact that emails were just released proving without a shadow of a doubt the White House tried to cover it up?

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Republicans are engaging in “diversion, subterfuge” by continuing to talk about the attack in Benghazi.
“Benghazi, Benghazi, Benghazi,” Pelosi said to reporters Thursday when asked about a new cache of recently released emails. “Why aren’t we talking about something else?”
Republicans have focused heavily on the 2012 attack on the U.S. diplomatic facility in Libya. During a Thursday hearing of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, Republicans seized on new documents released from the White House to accuse the Obama administration of lying about its role in drafting talking points about the attack.
Before exiting the news conference, Pelosi circled back to Benghazi.
“If you all want to sit around and talk about Benghazi you can sit around and talk about Benghazi,” Pelosi said. “The fact is that a subterfuge and they don’t want to talk about jobs, growth, immigration reform, voting rights, you name it.”

She also called not only for the U.S. government to process minors arriving illegally from Central America on a “case-by-case basis” but for the government to “treat the Mexican kids the way they treat the non-contiguous country kids.”
“Quite frankly, I would rather they treat the Mexican kids the way they treat the non-contiguous country kids,” Pelosi said at a Capitol Hill press conference on Thursday, claiming that sending these children back to their home countries would be like “sending them back into a burning building.”
“As you probably know by now, that when it comes to the children from my standpoint, I’m like a lioness,” she said. “Just don’t mess with the children, okay?”
