retired benefits major hike

Wrong. A key point of the deficit reduction plan McCarthy presented to Biden earlier this year called for the elimination of the 62 early retirement option and a raising of the full retirement age to 69. In fact Trump reportedly contacted McCarthy and ordered him not to touch SS or Medicare.

Given that you're always hollering about cutting public spending. why not a 50% cut in your monthly benefit rather than 25% and a corresponding 250% increase in Medicare premiums and an increase in coinsurance and out of pocket costs when you hit 65?
That's ludicrous. For one Trump can't order the Speaker of the House to do anything. You're, as usual, fear mongering. There's all kinds of proposals out there. Personally I like the Fair Tax proposal from Ron DeSantis for funding everything. Won't happen, but plenty of college professors and economists in the past have endorsed it. Would really help the economy. Would have to get rid of all those new IRS agents though.

Where have you been? In January in a public address to congressional Republicans Trump who is the head of the GOP ordered them not to touch SS or Medicare. Go look it up.

Now while you're at it be sure to check out your Senator Scott's plan to "rescue" America. You know that 26 point plan that called for the "sunset" of ALL federal programs. Also among that 26 point plan called for EVERYONE to pay federal income tax including those whose current incomes are below federal filing requirements. That's the thing about you so called "conservatives' you put people like this and their extreme right ideology in office believing that they'll never make it into law.

Oh, and eliminate IRS agents? What difference would a new tax code make if you have no way and nobody to enforce it?

It's not fear mongering Bud....It's fact. Trouble is people on your side of the isle are in denial.

Trump can say whatever he likes. He has no authority over them, can't order them around. Seriously, you think he can?

You obviously don't know how the Fair Tax works. It's a consumption tax. Look at the many thousands of pages in our current tax code. No one knows what's all in it. It's a mess, time we stop using it as a political club and streamline everything.

When Trump ordered his party not to attack SS or Medicare what did his lap dog McCarthy do? He immediately pulled it off the table.
Consumption tax? it's been kicked around for 20 years or more with no real traction. What do you tax? What do you exempt? What rate of tax? Who collects it ? Who will be responsible for enforcement? What impact will it have on state revenues when many are dependent on state sales taxes? What impact will a national sales tax have on a consumption based economy?

This is why a consumption tax has never progressed beyond the talk stage.

Sorry, but I don’t care anymore.

Again, you know nothing about how the Fair Tax works. Or how power in Washington is delegated.

So you want to replace FIT with a VIT. This is genius. The incomes of millions of Americans are so low that they have no federal liability to begin with and some qualify for the EIT a refundable credit. And you want to slap a 23% surcharge on top of their already constrained purchasing power? For more than 60% of American collecting SS benefits those benefits represents 80% or more of their total income . And these people don't have their dad paying their bills for them.

Furthermore, how many off shore vendors are going to assess the tax on online purchases made by Americans collect the tax and remit it to the US Treasury?

DeSantis proposed VAT is nothing new. It's been kicked around for decades. But they are all lacking in specifics particularly in the area of assessment and collection.

With the campaign of a desperate politician going below the Mendoza Line, DeSantis will throw anything out there in the fleeting hope that it will gain him some traction.

Again, you know nothing about the Fair Tax. With the Fair Tax all adults would receive a monthly "prebate" check. That's to cover the taxes of purchases of basic necessities.

DeSantis was a proponent of the Fair Tax when he was in Congress. Again, you don't know what's going on with this, but want to act like you do.

It's highly unlikely that we'll ever get rid of the current tax code. A code that costs many billions of dollars and a huge amount of man hours trying to comply with. But it gives Washington power over us so unlikely to ever happen.

I see why you like it. Another government handout. More free stuff. Free heart operations. Free government cash to pay your bills.

And you condemn people for doing exactly the same thing you're doing.

No, it's a small check to cover taxes for necessities. If say you want to buy a car you pay the 23%. But you also don't have income or payroll taxes.

Just exactly how would a plan such as this help a person who currently has no federal income tax liability to begin with because their income is too low?
And that so called "prebate" check ? Is that not government telling you what it thinks your necessities are?

And you guys claim to be anti "big government".

DeSantis is simply grabbing at straws in an attempt to rescue his struggling campaign. His VAT proposal went nowhere when he was in Congress . A VAT has been on the political fringes for decades. Assessment, collection, enforcement and whether or not it is capable of fully replacing the lost revenues resulting from the elimination of major revenue streams remains unanswered.

The problem with ANY new tax is that the revenue streams from existing taxes aren't eliminated, or are resurrected at the drop of a hat.

Example: Here in Texas, the State Legislature has increased the STATE Homestead Exemption from $40K to $100K. Sounds wonderful. But that doesn't address the largest property tax, the School District. It doesn't address the multitude other taxing entities such as Hospital, Junior College, Emergency Services, etc. It doesn't address what the Appraisal Boards can appraise your property for. It doesn't address the TAX RATE that can be assessed against that appraisal. In other words, it was a sleight of hand that doesn't accomplish anything permanent.

As long as liberals keep finding ways to spend tax money in spurious ways, taxes will continue to increase and multiply.

So, no taxes? How are things paid for? The Fair Tax wouldn't run parallel to the current Federal income tax, it would completely replace it as well as all other Federal taxes.

DeSantis has been a proponent of the Fair Tax long before becoming governor. If the government is giving the poor enough to cover taxes on basic expenses then they essentially have no Federal tax. If they're poor they aren't buying new cars anyways or other high.end items. Don't take my word for it, when the Fair Tax was developed it was run by numerous economists and economics professors from major universities who all that it would be a huge improvement over the current system.

I have friends and family living in Pennsylvania. I paid them a visit some weeks back and we got to talking about the Pa state income tax. The Pa state income tax is a flat 3.07%. No dependency exemption no standard deduction At the same time however Pa has in it's state constitution this thing called the " equality clause" .

Well, as a result of the "equality clause" a Pa resident making $20,000 a year pays the same state income tax rate as a guy
making $20,000,000. That's right. whether you're making 20 grand a year you're paying the same tax rate as a guy making 20 million a year.

You're saying you don't think it's fair that one person only has to pay 600 bucks while the other pays 600,000?

It still comes down to the cost of assessment , collection and enforcement. More importantly what do you do if the VAT fails to fully replace the revenues that would be lost through the elimination of the named revenue streams? Raise the VAT to 30% ,35%.?

The VAT is simply a theory. While the think tanks believe that in theory it will work I doubt that they have fully addressed the question of how much money and manpower will be required to fully ensure compliance of a system that may prove itself to be one that can be easily cheated especially when it involves person to person cash sales.
