no alot of people are doing it out of lack of real choice.
I might have a 2 bd 3/4 bath 1100 sf mother in law unit for rent soon. Has new carpet. No pets $1200 usd. Can maybe throw in some free moorage. Bring the boat and the jet skis.

My point is, you found a road to be successful enough, and reasonably secure in your finances. However, your posts seem to say that this is impossible in the (capitalistic) system you're working in. Which is it?

By the way, in countries like Saudi Arabia, the oil wealth has made it so that everything is subsidized and the ruling class still has trillions of dollars, yet, they're moving to a more capitalist system. Why would this be, if pure socialism was nirvana?

yea i make $5 less per hour than a ups driver. i consider myself fortunate in that sense because the economy has gotten worse by the decade.

but i wouldnt say i am free by any means.

to make my philosophy easier to understand, you can look at it like who's giving orders and whos making decisions. any system where a minority is giving orders and making decisions is going to be problematic because they will act in their self interest + abuse their power.
