Many of the younger guys don't want to start a 401k because we don't get a match, not realizing that the company pays into a pension plan.

So I set up a 401k a couple weeks ago and my last paycheck showed a deduction towards it. However when I look at my teamsters 401k account it says my account balance is still $0. Does it take a while for the money to get to the 401k or have I done something wrong?

Set the asset allocation to a bond percentage between your and and your age minus 10. Example: I'm 32, therefore 32% bonds. Check it on your birthday every year and rebalance.

Better yet, use one of those auto-allocation funds and don't check it ever.

I'm 100% in equities. My plan is 0 debt, pay off the mortgage early, buy rental properties with cash, live off pension and social security and rental cash flow, use the 401(k) money as supplemental.
