The strike in 97 was about keeping the pension out of the hands of UPS. If we would have gave it to them, you wouldn't have a pension now.
The new generation on the scene better wake up. UPS is determined to have their labor like everyone else's. Just a sht job with sht benefits. Take it or leave it.

It was both. Clearly the union understood even then the pension was in trouble and needed more participants. Ended up not working for a lot of different reasons.

But I am a beneficiary of the full-time jobs that the company was eventually forced to honor.. The day I was asked if I wanted to go full-time package car driving was the same day I was asked if I wanted one of the first 22.3 jobs at my building.
