Maybe if the police over there had something more to use than sticks and whistles....
I remember the Rodney King riots down in L.A.....there were Asian-run businesses that didnt get torched or looted because their owners were up on the rooftop defending their property with guns.
Not only are the police in the UK unarmed...but they wont even let them use water cannons or baton rounds against the mobs. They pretty much have to stand there with sticks and whistles and watch the mayhem unfold. I can understand and agree with the reluctance to use force against peaceful demonstrations but when you have mobs of looters and arsonists running wild with no respect for authority or fear of any consequences then its time to start cracking some skulls.
[h=2]No shame: Masked looters brazenly pose with their haul of top gadgets [/h] Proudly posing with their stolen spoils, this bunch of thieves embody the greedy nature of looters who snatched whatever they could while ransacking England's streets. But specialist officers at Scotland Yard are matching images from CCTV with pictures stored in the computerised files of people who had been arrested or charged, so these posers' smug pictures could be their downfall.
[h=2]Zero tolerance: The dramatic moment armed police officer holds a gun over the head of a 15-year-old boy on a Manchester high street[/h] This dramatic picture shows the officer standing over the boy with the semi-automatic rifle outside a Greggs bakery in Wythenshawe which was the scene of riots just four days earlier. At least a dozen police officers swarmed the area in Wythensawe and searched a group of boys aged between 11 and 15.
I noticed on the TV interviews, they were all acting proud of their behavior, yet the masks remained in place. Not too proud if your face is covered.
Sober, can you imagine how much worse the LA riots could/would have been had facebook or other social media been in place at that time?
Thats an interesting thought.
I dont know that social media made the British riots any worse. I think what made them worse was the fact that the rioters knew that there would be no consequences for their actions. They were up against unarmed and outnumbered police.
In the LA riots there may not have been any Facebook, but there was certainly no shortage of media coverage on 24 hr cable TV news channels. I suspect that, comparitively speaking, the LA riots were not as widespread because both our police and our average citizens are better equipped to defend themselves and their property.
