They threatened to leave unless Seattle gave up trying to make them pay a $450 tax per employee
It was $500 originally. They past it at $250. Then they repealed it. But we are talking about minimum wage. Amazon didn’t threaten to leave over min. wage. It didn’t affect amazon.

Impress the hell out of me. Show me corporations that aren’t dependent on government and the handouts they receive through money and/or favorable legislation. Why should that favor be bestowed upon corporations rather than the sovereigns, the citizens?
I don't think the government should ever bail out businesses. Government should not be meddling in any privately owned business. The less government influence the better. I'm glad we can agree on that.

And your solution to this is socialism? The system where people can't even afford bread and have no rights to own pretty much anything. That makes a lot of sense..

Maybe we should remove all the regulations in automakers and we would see prices come down. The auto industry is also prime for a correction right now.

I agree our economy isn't doing well. This is mostly due to wreckless government spending (wasted taxes, endless wars), and over/burdernsome regulation. It's hallowed out the middle class. This is why we need a small government that does nothing more than what the Constitution says.
people cant afford things in capitalism too. its not unique to one system

my solution is worker controlled jobs. this will decentralize power in the economy and ownership.

i agree with you on the taxes and wars part.

You complain about stuff and beg for others to do things for you. You complain about having to work hard. You're entitled.

He is saying how $15 wage does more harm than good. My brother in-law is a Canadian. They recently went to a $14 minimum wage. Guess what. McDonald's fired most if their employees, stores are now only open 2-3 days a week instead of 5-7. Prices have already gone up. And more people are on unemployment. He hates Canada and can't wait till he becomes a citizen here.

The only place for opportunity in Canada is Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver. Everywhere else in the country it's pretty much undeveloped. Or small towns with not much in them. Even bigger towns like Waterloo, Owensound, Windsor etc.
so your idea of freedom" is workers having to work more than 40 hours a week just to get by?

sounds like mental slavery.

theres nothing wrong about "complaining about stuff". civil rights, worker rights, environmental rights. these whiners are more american than you.

FYI the middle class is dead in vancouver and TO because if you arent inheriting anything then you will be spending all of your money on either rent or mortgages.

School are heavily subsidized. There are free schools. There are trade school, much cheaper, with a high % going straight to work. Many people work full time a go to school full time. You’re just saying you’re lazy. We know that.
schools have been defunded. they are falling apart. theres high student debt which is a form of social control. and schools arent about getting jobs, they are about teaching people how to think, but thats increasingly being lost.

They are making what people want. They didn't say "People are buying a lot of cars so lets stop making them and make only trucks and SUV's instead". The market is showing them what people want and their job is to fill that need and make money while doing it.
but my point is competition is decreasing.

Anyone can get a federally backed student loan that wants one, rich or poor. If you decide to go to college it is your responsibility to get a degree in something that is applicable in the workplace. You can't spend 4 years or more in school and come out $100k in debt and come out with a degree in gender studies because you wanted to "chase your passion" and then wonder why you are not being "paid what you are worth". I did not go to college, i got a job and went to work, so why should i have to pay for someone else to go?
why should you pay for any social program? because your better off when you care about your fellow man and have solidarity. its the golden rule.

school is not about work.

  • @rickyb you have it all wrong. The government doesn't help as much as you think. You instantly equate rich with being greedy.
40 hr work weeks are a piece of cake.

Way to show your true colors..

You hate freedom and want to take what is the yours. You want to make people dependent upon the govt instead of allowing then to live their lives how they want.

Why haven't you moved to one of these Utopias yet?
capitalism does not mean freedom.

We have already seen this. This experiment is being tried in Seattle right now and it is going pretty much how you would think. They are gradually increasing the minimum wage to $15 over several years but there are already employers that haven't been able to afford it. They've cut their payrolls, put off new hiring, and reduced hours or let workers go.

The costs to low wage workers have outweighed the benefits by a ratio of 3 to 1 according to a study conducted by a group of economists at the University of Washington who were commissioned by the city. On whole the study estimates, the average low wage worker in the city lost $125 a month because of the increase in the minimum wage.
you have to be careful where you get your news from.

i dont trust any news person that wasnt referred to me from another journalist.

40 hours a week, plus a 1 hr drive, plus 2.5 hour unpaid lunch adds up. and like i said its been over 70 years since government cut the work week down to 40 hours. time to do it again.

Teaching people how to think? Wrong....that's not what education is for.
