Unreported accident

Am I the only one who sees all of the holes in the OP’s story?

There is no way that a driver, whether a newbie or 25 year veteran, is not going to call in an accident that causes a fast food restaurant to close down.

There is no way that the police waited until the following day to call UPS. Every Mickey D’s that I have ever been to has cameras all over the place and one of the first things that would have been was review the footage.

The driver was not instantly terminated—he was taken out of service pending investigation.

The only part of his story that had any plausibility was the last sentence.

You don't have to believe my story but this is what was told to us by our on road in the pcm on Friday. We are all scratching our heads as to why he wouldn't just call it in.

A driver in our center backed into a water main pipe outside a mcdonalds causing it to burst last Wednesday night, forcing them to shutdown for repairs to be made.
The police and fire department were called to the scene. The driver did not call the center or notify management. Management was not made aware of the situation until they got a call from pd the next day. The driver was immediately pulled off route and terminated. His excuse for not reporting was that there were no managers in the center at the time of the accident (lame excuse).
This was a 25 year driver. What do guys think are his chances of getting his job back. Also let this be an example that if you have an accident big or small report it immediately it could save your career.
Did he call the center and tell anyone? If not he’s toast

hmmm. management is always really secretive about people getting fired and the circumstances leading up to it. Even if they do address the issue, it would be a very vague PCM about reducing backs and avoiding stationary objects, it would never call out a driver by name, or even refer to them "anonymously" as a 25 year driver.

If the story you told is 100% accurate, He should be fired. Sorry to say that, but he’s a maroon. If I hit a plastic garbage can I call it in. As long as you report it, they can’t do sheet.

He probably didn't realize he hit it ---------just because the back bumper was caved in a foot means nothing. That big bang he heard and his truck bouncing was probably a 100 pound package falling of the top shelf. Never admit to anything.

That's the problem with the old generation. Unlike today's generation they never took responsibility for their actions. What a disgrace you all were. No wonder this country is so messed up.

It all depends what the center, division & district think of this employee. If a dependable, productive & UPS future growth spirited employee, more than likely suspension without back pay or a rehired/fired employee. If the employee is late always, back talks, files or basically been trouble he is toast.

Let's be honest here. There isn't ONE 25-year UPS package driver(talking package here), that hasn't had a mishap that wasn't reported that others nationwide were charged for the same avoidable. Every single 25-year Driver has done this. Maybe not as obvious as this guy. Yet, all have. Whether a scratch, ding, cracked mirror, slid into a ditch. Anybody that disputes that is a bald-faced liar.

Gaur-an-teed.

There's also another chance for him. Say his career he has been a trouble maker. A problem child. As long as he bows down from this day forward to be the model employee. He'll get his job back. He might have to whip up some tears as well.

He will be back 100%...if he wants to come back...there was a driver about to retire and he “accidentally” rear ended someone a few days before he was officially retired. He was taken off road cause of the severity of the accident and never came back...by choice

Some stuff you cant get around. A serious enough accident has a tougher time staying under the radar. But it's absolutely true when an issue arises, first question is "Good guy or bad guy?

Yeah they are. The sup didn't call him out by name but we are a small center of about 40 drivers so word travels quick here and everyone already knew who it was. I feel bad for him he is a good guy just can't figure out why he didn't call it in.
