UPS transition timelines

I have not seen any forced seperations of MIP people yet either, mearly demotions and dept. moves.
On a side note, i would guess that 500 taking the buyout is a high number....

yea. we're seeing lancers, artists, canoneers dying right and left and hoping that we did not lose any knights. Why? Is there some feeling that the company has been just with this process if everyone else dies a horrible death except us? Who else do we need to see get screwed over before we decide that maybe just maybe there is something wrong here?

As an addendum to this point I have made a career of letting my conscience and my princples guide me. I once had a divison manager try to counsel me that my principles were a hinderance to my success. I will bleed brown with the best of them but I will never absolutely never screw someone over to get somewhere or to save my job. What we have going on now is a disgrace. There was a time when we as partners said we argue abouth the merits upstairs and when we are done we go downstairs a united front. this circus now taking place never got my input and the whole process is downright immoral. I'm actually ashamed to be associated with it for the first time in my career.

A few years ago just after we went public, a manager said as everyone was raving about the monetary gains that UPS would change to the point that we would not recognize the things that made us great., I didn't believe him then but I see it now.

It is a game of musical chairs at this point. We had one manager in our dept. take the buyout only to be replaced by someone of the same level from back east. supposedly it is down to sups this week, I would think there is some forced seperation at some point. The thing with all the technological advances, not only does that affect hourly employees but what is the point of so much management when you can run a computer program and get any info on any driver they want to look at and the weakening of the contract regarding using electronic data for disipline. my dept. a shade over fifty hourlies and 12 management or techs to oversee us. A little bit much. When the new div. manager came to town after realignment people were given the day off so it didn't look like too many in the office. I would suspect purging bloated managment teams is not over with another round of buyouts after this one works it way through. just ramblings from someone who remembers what it meant to work for UPS under Caseys vision.

I don't think Casey would have supported 12 management people for 50 employees or the deception of taking off to make it look like there are less people on the payroll.

This is supervisor week in transition timelines, Does anyone know what will be the way for sups. to be selected , as managers were 55+ and so on. Will it be 55+ years of service or some other factors?

Everyone down to and including specialists has already been selected and notified. Today i heard of the first forced seperations on managment. It appears there is no reason behind the selecition.... A list of jobs is opened up, then HR and your 18(staff level manager) select who best suits that position and assign a name to it. This was completed in the previous weeks. All managment was notified last Friday and told to keep their mouth shut until this Friday or else. The sups/specialst will not be offered the retirement package availble to 16 & 18 of the appropriate age. If a sup does not like his new job assignment he can elect to leave with a seperation package(way different than an retirement package). It also appears you either in or out, there are more people standing than chairs left to sit in.... Even those notified they did not have a job were told to keep quite about it until after this coming Friday, or when publicly released. If you did not like your new position or simply were not selected you absolute last day of work will be 5/31......

Seems to be pretty clear cut, your either in or out.....like it or leave.

Thanks . The success of this company has always been a concern for me. But never ever at the expense of those who toil for this company. Its shameful what we are doing to our people. Its not the ups i grew up in.

You are so right Tie! I AM one of those 20 year admins and yes I am getting royally screwed. I have busted my ass for UPS, hell, even took days off without pay when asked....to help "cut costs".......stupid me for caring all this time. I had the senority to "bump" someone out of a job, however, when they gave us the job selection list there was only one day job - customer counter in a center that's over an hour away OR nights & early AM. Yeah, I can do that...just have to find daycare for my 4 and 9 year old at 3am or midnight! RIGHT - I really had a choice....job/sev pkg. Get Real - those jobs were offered to get rid of admins. Guess now it's just a matter of "what goes around comes around"..... stay tuned for the "New UPS".

I have not seen any forced seperations of MIP people yet either, mearly demotions and dept. moves. Who will know whats gonna happen after May 28th?? All managment people who have jobs, post transition, already know as of this past Friday(this includes specialists i believe). Has anyone actually came out and said they do not have a job after May 28th? Also, i have not heard of any specialsts say they were left sitting on the bench and must take a pt sup job or leave??? Granted we may not be done selecting from the bench until we see what all players are needed. There is still the chance some managment may not like there new assignment and will elected to take a package. So many questions and even more rumors... The dust will settle this Friday at 5pm, but like the buyout no list of names will ever be realeased to see who was forced out. Will we ever know if 1800 are actually gone? not likely....

On a side note, i would guess that 500 taking the buyout is a high number....

I just heard of 2 specialists in my district forced out. One worked (I think) for customer support. I heard, second hand, that this specialist, with 25 yrs with UPS, was not offered another position.

Does anyone know if the job selections are finished?? I am a part-time sup in a center office (formerly called OMS). Wondering if we are part of this proceess...

The purge has been completed for MIP, admins, and specialists. I know we still have part time sups that have not been notified. Some are still worried if they have a job or not. Given the new positions take effect 6/1, after our holiday weekend, i would have to assume that pt sup positios are safe. Does not make since to bring people back after everyone else is gone only to tell them they no longer have a job. Besides that you work in an operation as an OMS....the recent job losses were very much targeted at the support functions...IE, Security, PE, TSG.(which is right if you have 1/2 the district offices) BD seemed to grow quite a bit during this process to fuel the needs of the new sales force. It has been my opinion after seeing so many facilities that it will be hard to manage the operations efficently with any less management onsite.

Long story short.....you job as a pt sup should be safe
