UPS transition timelines

Chihuahuas Rule!
You are so right Tie! I AM one of those 20 year admins and yes I am getting royally screwed. I have busted my ass for UPS, hell, even took days off without pay when asked....to help "cut costs".......stupid me for caring all this time. I had the senority to "bump" someone out of a job, however, when they gave us the job selection list there was only one day job - customer counter in a center that's over an hour away OR nights & early AM. Yeah, I can do that...just have to find daycare for my 4 and 9 year old at 3am or midnight! RIGHT - I really had a choice....job/sev pkg. Get Real - those jobs were offered to get rid of admins. Guess now it's just a matter of "what goes around comes around"..... stay tuned for the "New UPS".

I am also sorry to hear your story.
In these past months, we all thought this consolidation was going to be different. In the past consolidations, the only losses were non-union admins and specialists. This consolidations was SUPPOSE to hit mostly high level managers. Didn't happen in my neck of the woods - mostly the same old faces - hardly anyone even transfered.
Again, it was mostly non-union admins and specialists out.
Starting to think this was the original plan - for the most part leave the top alone, to reach the target manpower eliminate the bottom - its even cheaper!!
I am disgusted....

Would you expect anything but from the ivory towers of UPS?

ANYONE who thinks UPS is the same company it was 10yrs ago is living in fairy world. UPS is the exact same as every large company out there. Everything special about the company has been trashed in the name of the almighty stock price.

The good part is, if you have ANY marketable skills at all after the big brown monster kicks you out you'll realize the outside world is better (and pays better) anyway. At least thats what every one of my friends who has voluntarily left tell me.

approximatley 550 divison and senior managers

more divison managers that seperated after hearing the offer. One divison manager was offered a supervisors position.

same with the managers leaving after seeing the job offer or seeing how the districts ended up.

supervisors appear to be the least affected since we were already short on supervisors. Question i have is what happens to those out on disability since their names did not pop up on jobs lists.

many specialists seperated. based on my district possibly around 200.

many admins seperated. based on my district as many as 700 to 900 . maybe more.

this phase of the blood bath is now complete. I think the total number seperated will end up being much higher then the 1100 originally announced.

Now comes the inquisition. The company has changed from the partnership , you promoted them you make them successful concept to one of cut em if you don't need them.

Corporate has demonstrated that its ok to discard employees to be profitable.

Folks the game has changed dramatically and the future is presently bleak with ramifications that possibly extend to all jobs and all levels.

This would probably be a good time for corporate to put out a we value our people marketing blitz to let everyone know that they are not head hunting nor shooting the first person that stumbles.

Im sorry to hear that anyone last to loose a job especially when profits seem to be starting an uphill climb, but your above statement has been realized and done to labor for many years. I hate to say it but seems like some of this has come full circle. It will be interesting to see next quarters profits, if they are up as much as last quarter there will be some major chaos...

Cold I don't think this was done before. There was an oderly process on the labor side that was based on seniority. There are people here who are cheering the idea of divison managers and maybe managers losing their jobs. Overall the divison maangers that left were over 55 and recieved a financial benifit to do so. the ones that upset me are the specialists and admins that lost their jobs or were given the choice of causing someone else to lose their jobs.

I grew up on Jim Casey. Jim preached the value of people and would not have engaged in something so cold hearted. In my opinion this process shows a darker more mean spirited side to corporate that values people much less.

One of my arguments against euthanasia on another thread has been that once you start justifying the process of killing the aged and affirmed because they no longer have any value that it then becomes easier to justify including other groups in that definition. You basically open the flood gates. This step may in fact be the first in a corporate form of euthanasia that may be unprecedented. What you think you saw in the past may be mild compared to whhat we see in the future. This move this year was a major shift in the moral character of this company. As immorral as you think it was in the past we may have just made a complete shift to the dark side.
