A driver that decides to retire and file for pension has thirty days to change his mind. Our most senior driver who is 69 years old did that, the only time I have seen it happen. That could hold up a bid going through. It may get posted, but held up.

Also, the second route I won in a bid was busted out after I trained on it two days with a supervisor on my car. This was about 28 years ago, I was forced to go back to my first route. We didn't have cover drivers back then, you were either a bid driver or a unassigned swing driver.

What is it? A brown box. Duh
You will have to go back to driver training as it has been over a year. I was a seasonal driver then went in part time for a year as a preloaded and air driver and had to take the class again when I went full time. Felt like the longest week of my life

Whats up guys.
Seniority date is 6/11/2017 and on 7/24/2017 HR called to inform I won a bid for a cover driver route. Obviously I was pretty stoked as I just hit my 30 working days working as a loader at night. They asked if I accept. I requested time, but ultimately called them back and accepted. Literally turned down a 50k/yr government office gig down in D.C. that I had signed the offer letter that same day.

HR said come down for the road test and we will get the ball rolling.
took road test on 8/3/2017, no issues. I drove for peak as a reg temp in 2015.
Went and got that DOT physical knocked out same day after road test. Informed HR i drove in 2015 and has to check to confirm if I can use prior certification.
Any thoughts?
Will I have to go to Intergrad or local hub driver training? My certificate is dated 11/14/2015. Worked until 1/15/2016 then given MRE. Qualified. but was passed over for On-Road-Sup. Given preload PT position but left after 2 weeks.

I've read over the archives regarding "cover driver"
Just wanted to get additional relative feedback from you guys related to how the 1st year will pane out etc.
Especting a different route every 2 weeks?
And a big wig in HR said its tuesday-saturday and alluded to regular sunday ground delivery in near future.
Thanks guys,
Matt

Are you in the Burtonsville hub?

Congrats. Have fun working till 9 every night if you aren't in the Bog.

Two things. Put in a transfer to feeder immediately. And sign up for the 9.5 list. They're still going to bury you, but at least ts extra free money.

Package as bad as I've ever seen it, and only going to get worse. It is now a horrible job with decent pay.
You cant qualify for 9.5 list unless you're at top scale or a bid driver.

thank ur lucky stars you were passed over for on road supe.

stay hourly.

if tempted to go into management do a search on all the threads regarding that option here.

stay hourly and you'll be making 70-100k in a short time plus another 30-40k in benefits.

and sign up for feeders. It's not as scary as it seems. the only downsides to that is it is usually night work and you'll have to join a gym.

bon chance

I've been in Feeders for about a month now. I haven't broke a sweat and already ordering two size up uniforms.

Not in the 177. You only have to bid a route for the week and be violated to opt in. Now that's not to say they don't try ways around that. Pulling the driver off that route for one day so they can't opt in. But you can grieve that as well.

A positive for being an onroad sup is you work 60-70 hours a week so you have less time home with your spouse if you don't get along with them.

We have a horrible management team at the moment. From the center manager to the on cars. I hope they all have mental breakdowns. Would put a smile on my face.

You're right, I should not have been so harsh. It has been my experience ( with a few exceptions of course ) that on road supes are usually former hourlies that could not make it on our side ) and very few of them are worth their salt.

a couple months or maybe a year as a package driver and then they try to tell a 20 yr vet how to do it?

yes, I have known a couple excellent on roads supes which I learned a lot from. One of them eventually became a center manager and he is top notch. So there are always exceptions to the rule. ( exceptions )

At UPS it is better to stay on the hourly side. Too many reasons to list. Do a search and you'll have a month's worth of reading.
