UPS holds parade and family day to thank essential workers – WEAU

UPS drivers have been extra busy throughout the COVID-19 pandemic as more people look to shop online and avoid leaving their homes.

On Friday, UPS in Altoona threw a Family Day and parade to thank the essential workers.

“Right now we are as busy as can be. It’s like Christmas right now, everyone is working long hours ,” says Tommy Veehers, a UPS driver based in Altoona.

Family and friends of UPS drivers were invited to gather as drivers loaded up their trucks to head out on their routes. Then, one by one, each driver was sent off with cheers and applause in a parade of trucks.

Pelham Police: 1 dead including UPS truck driver in 3-car pileup on highway near Chelsea – ABC 3344

The Shelby County coroner identified the victim as the driver of a UPS truck, 61-year-old Gary Kukelhan.

According to the Pelham Police Department, one person is dead after a traffic accident involving three cars.

Police say the wreck happened around 5:55 p.m on Hwy 11 near the Chelsea city limits and Kendrick road.

UPS pledges millions to support justice and reform to advance equality – Atlanta Business Chronicle

United Parcel Service Inc. is stepping up its actions in support of justice, reform and equality for black Americans in response to the killings of Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and others.

UPS said June 8 it urges immediate passage of the federal Antilynching Act and state-based hate crime bills, including Georgia’s. UPS is among numerous major Georgia corporations urging the state to pass a state hate crimes bill.

The Atlanta-based package delivery giant also said it will provide $3.2 million through The UPS Foundation to organizations including the NAACP, National Urban League, The Executive Leadership Council, 100 Black Men of America, The Leadership Conference on Civil & Human Rights’ Education Fund, Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, United Negro College Fund, Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Spelman College, The National Center for Civil and Human Rights, and the National Black Child Development Institute.
