UPS Gives U.S. Exporters A Helping Hand With Saturday Pick-Up Of International Shipments

UPS (NYSE: UPS) is enabling its U.S. customers to sell their products globally with the same delivery speed as domestic shipments. Businesses that schedule a Saturday pick-up from the U.S. to 57 key international markets will have their shipments processed and shipped on Saturday and delivered as soon as Monday, one day faster than previous UPS time-in-transit. The destination countries (see list below) are located across the Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific, with more key markets to be added later this year.

“One day makes a big difference when it comes to your international customers deciding to place an order,” said Nando Cesarone, President, UPS International. “We’re seeing significant opportunities for U.S. businesses, especially small-and medium sized online retailers, to export their quality products to high-growth international markets. By connecting e-tailers to our smart global logistics network, UPS helps them meet their customers’ expectations and compete with local country e-tailers.”

UPS, flight dispatchers reach impasse, union says – Louisville Business Journal

Unionized aircraft dispatchers say they’ve reached an impasse in negotiations with United Parcel Service Inc.

The two sides have been engaged in federally mediated negotiations for a new contract since August 2016. The dispatchers are part of the Transport Workers Union of America.

Because this negotiation is being overseen by the National Mediation Board, neither UPS nor the union can walk away. So TWU has sent a request to the board requesting to be released from negotiations.

TWU and UPS could not reach an agreement because UPS has not offered enough in wages and their pension proposal falls significantly short when compared to other unionized UPS airside workgroups, a union news release said.

Teamsters see new Congress favoring pension reform – FreightWaves

The Rehabilitation of Multiemployer Pensions Act, introduced today in the U.S. House of Representatives by Democrat Richard Neal of Massachusetts, was first introduced by Neal in 2017 but did not gain traction. However, with pension reform-friendly Nancy Pelosi leading the Democrat-controlled Congress, the Teamsters are more confident of the bill’s success.

The bill is aimed at helping save more than 300 multi-employer plans across the country in danger of failing, including Central States, which has roughly 400,000 Teamster members. It is estimated to be insolvent by 2025 after years of contributions that were scaled back – or eliminated – by employers such as YRC (NASDAQ: YRCW) and UPS Freight, UPS Inc.’s (NYSE: UPS) less-than-truckload unit.

Central States currently pays out approximately $2.8 billion in pension benefits annually but collects only $700 million in contributions and withdrawal liability payments.

Man Found Innocent After His Three Dogs Maul UPS Delivery Driver – KDKA

Matthew Zavarella walked out of District Justice Helen Kistler’s courtroom found not guilty on three summary counts related to a savage dog attack on UPS driver Ami Demi in August 2018.

Zavarella’s three attack-trained German shepherds mauled Demi as the woman was delivering a letter to Zavarella’s Penn Township residence.

Demi testified about the incident.

“I pulled up, beeped the horn,” said Demi. “The first dog came right at me. I said, ‘Oh my God.’ The dog ripped my calf open, it looked like a shark bite. The two other dogs followed. The attack felt like forever. I’m here to deliver a letter, that’s my job. His hob to make it safe for a delivery person to get that to him.”

Wednesday’s proceedings, however, centered on Zavarella violating the state’s dog containment statue.
