A UPS driver was killed and a Chicago trucker was ticketed following a three-truck crash – Chicago Sun Times

The Elkhart-based UPS truck was driven by Marvin Reinholtz, 38 of Osceola, Ind., who was “found outside partially pinned under the front right tire of his own tractor and the rear left tire of the Kenworth,” ISP said.

Reinholtz was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lake County coroner’s office. The coroner’s office determined his cause of death was blunt force trauma from a motor vehicle accident.

With a record number of consumers shopping online for the holidays, post-holiday returns and exchanges will keep UPS (NYSE: UPS) busy right through the new year. UPS National Returns Day is Jan. 6, 2015, when the company expects consumers will ship more than 800,000 packages back to retailers and merchants. By the end of the first full week in January, UPS anticipates transporting 4 million return packages in the United States.

Package delivery appears jollier this year – USA Today

A white Christmas wasn’t in the cards for most of the U.S., but that bodes well for package delivery. So does the fact that both Federal Express and UPS say they’ve refined their systems to help prevent missing packages.

UPS reported things were “running smoothly” on Christmas Eve day and “we continue to deliver strong volume,” spokeswoman Andy McGowan said in an email.

“Our drivers are delivering throughout the day today and we will make every attempt to deliver all packages in time for Christmas,” added McGowan. “We have worked closely with our customers to meet their needs while ensuring that our network provides reliable delivery service.”

But mishaps still happen.
