Forced 20 Minute Break

Why would anyone cheat them self and work during their break? Why blame that on the company? Blame the idiot that is doing it. That is why the PPAD locks up during the your break.
At a previous station had a topped out courier that, in exchange for getting his extended rt done early and helping out back in station's main city, got to stick around and be dangerous goods specialist. All the OT made him $76k the previous year(got to work all the Saturdays he wanted too). One day in his rushing around he lost focus for a second and got broadsided by a semi. I was transferring in and was asked to take over his rt. Very soon I started getting pressure to perform as well as he did. And it didn't take long to find out from customers that he cut major corners, shortcuts that got him killed. Shortcuts that management was perfectly fine with because he was helping their numbers. So much so that he worked all he wanted. So yeah, the company is often ok with what they have to know is going on, until it blows up in their face. Unless they're dimwitted. After all they had just buried one courier, and were trying to get me to do what he had done, saying I was milking the clock as the reason I couldn't match his numbers.

If you'd just pick up the pace, you could have yourself a nice 1hr break and get back in time ;)

Right!? Then I'd go from 100% on my route to 115%.

Last week my manager printed out my productivity numbers for the last two weeks. I was over 100% on every day except one day where I was in the 90s and that was the day he highlighted on the sheet. That one day was a day we had an ad-hoc flight and I had to re-drive an entire rural section of my route.

And he wonders why morale is low/turnover is high at our station.

Absolutely amazing that you can run your route at or above 100% almost every day but that one day you get stuck at a train, switching tracks or get stuck behind a school bus, that is the day they choose to talk to you about.

Honestly, though, just keep pointing out how ridiculous their nit-picking is and show you don't really care. Eventually, your manager will just leave you alone. I swear, some managers do it because they get a kick out of getting a rise out of those below them.

Again, clearly it was your fault that Flight came in late... if you were running 115% that day, you would have only dropped to about 100, we expect better. Gave you a BIG raise, now you are lazy like those Union thugs at UPS... ;)

Already been there, done that. Didn't get the interview when I was there with a random group of about 6 other people. I guess my resumé wasn't up to snuff for Brown.

Sorry for getting off track, just pointing out that our recent BIG raise was not as glorious as managers here make it out to be. Which I'm sure you've heard. My individual beef isn't with the percentage per se, but more the fact that I was put on the same step as people with 2 less years of service and experience and poorer performance.

Sounds like your performance should be matching with those who are getting the same rate of pay as you. What are they going to do, tell you you have to work harder than those who are at the same rate of pay as you?

Working at FedEx is just a big game. Just have to figure out how to play it and it'll make things much easier for you.

A veteran who has worked for FX a long time mentioned something that may pretty well screw mgt's efforts. The policy manual covers 30 and 60 minute break requirements. But nowhere does it say word one about 20 minute breaks. So added to my defense would be "Show me in the policy manual here it says I'm required to take such breaks."

I don't feel that I'm risking my job, so I don't care much.

I'm in MA also and the management at my station have said 20 minute breaks are no longer allowed probably a couple years ago.
They change their stupid policies whenever it's to their advantage.
They just want to decrease gap reports
They moved my start time (pm pickup rte)up an hour later but of course when there is late freight 10-20 extra deliveries they'll call me & expect me to come in early.
So I just start at the earlier time every day so I can punch out earlier 6&out

20min breaks are still allowed... although quite useless when I've taken one. but I've done a 40+20, but 3 20s just doesn't feel good.

Oh yes, is that you laying on the floor?

I've been adding more sweeps to negate any gaps, which my route doesn't have, anyway.

Here's a tip, you can basically do whatever you want, work over 8 with a 30 min break..punch in at sort start everyday if you want. Just do it until someone tells you not to because I guarantee it will take them months(if ever) for your manager to tell you to stop.

Last peak my manager scheduled the swings to start at 8:30 the whole month of December, long story short every swing punched at sort start everyday and not a word was said
