    This qualifies as current events so I will put it here.

    Klein, the leader of the your Borg collective has spoken. Will you obey? Resistance is futile.

    Klein, you can't assimilate us in the u.s.a. if you refuse to be assimilated by your own borg collective.

    The manufacturers' price (as of October, 1997) is $9.69.
    The federal excise duty is $5.50.
    The federal excise tax is $2.66.
    The provincial tobacco tax is $4.70.
    The wholesale/retail margin is about 17%, or $3.83.
    There is a 8% provincial sales tax, amounting to $2.11.
    The federal G.S.T. adds 7%, or $1.86.
    The total price is therefore $30.35.

    It gets WORSE!!!

    Carton of 200 cigarettes

    The manufacturers' price (as of October, 1997) is $9.69.
    The federal excise duty is $5.50.
    The federal excise tax is $5.36.
    The provincial tobacco tax is $22.00.
    The wholesale/retail margin is about 14%, or $5.96.
    The H.S.T. adds 15%, or 7.28.
    The total price is therefore $55.79.

    DS, sure can tell you must be a non smoker !
    Those prices were great back then in 1997. Very comparable with todays Florida prices per carton.

    A carton of cheap brand cigs in AB, is now $82.00
    For brand name cigs (Player's, Du Maurier, etc) over $12 a pack , or over $100 per carton !

    Incase you haven't heard DS, this is comming this year :

    Ottawa to increase size of tobacco warnings to cover 3/4 of cigarette package

    For those that don't know our cigarette packaging.
    So far the warning has only covered 50% of it.
