Earlier today, read this 6 part series on the History of Policing in the United States written by Dr. Gary Potter, School of Justice Studies, Eastern Kentucky University. Most reflective when considering American domestic history and what we see in modern police forces today.

You guys have a video of the end of what happened and you all pass judgement. Thank god you're only truck drivers and don't work in the judicial system.

A baton whack to the legs to knock her down and subdue her for her own protection (potentially getting hit by a passing vehicle) is one thing. Repeatedly punching her in the head is completely unnecessary....regardless of the suspect's gender. Even using a taser would have been more prudent.

There have definitely been videos that have been edited to make the police look bad. There also have been many cases of cops caught on camera behaving badly. Big Brother watches everything everyone does now. It does seem that most of these brutality cases happen in more liberal areas were everyone is assumed to be model law abiding citizens. Sometimes they are. Many times not. There is usually a reason why the conflict with police started in the first place. Someone resists arrest or won't comply with the cop's instructions and the cop is having a bad day and blows his top seems to be the usual situation.

Suppose he had just stood there and let her wander through traffic? What would people be saying then?
He did the right thing when he prevented her from trying to hurt/kill herself.

From the video and witness accounts, there was no justification for this use of force. That cop looked like he was in a mma fight. The "Woman" was on the ground defenseless while he was Pounding away at her head. Cops like this are usually the ones who are involved in excessive use of force cases such as the Rodney king beating or Oscar Grant shooting. These are the type of police officers that should not have a badge and a gun.

I think even the most ignorant among them (TOS) would have a hard time defending this cop.

How many of you have been or are trained LEOs? How many of you were on this scene? Which one of you is that woman? Not one of you knows why happened or why.
Take this story as an example of how ignorant you all are being. . .
Cop has a male subject hand cuffed and leaning up against the drivers side on his hood. Your POV is from across the passenger side. The officer is standing behind the subject while the subject isn laying across the hood. The subject slowly leans back and begins to stand up.
The officer suddenly slams his head into the hood and punches him three times on the back of the head.
Police brutality right?
WRONG!
Because what you didn't see or know is that the subject grabbed the officers genitals and was squeezing and refusing to let go! The bastard even admitted to it because he thought it was funny!
So stop arm chair quarterbacking and let them do their job. Police have a job that isn't what it used to be. You have people who have no regard for anyone's life out there and these people stand between you and them. Do they always get bit right? No. Are there some criminals out there wearing badges calling themselves cops? Yep.
But no matter what people need to realize there are at least three sides to every story an the video doesn't show any of them.

<sigh> the newscasters said at least 15 times the victim was a woman,and the individual that filmed it referred to the victim several times as woman.
