Co-workers buy car for teen UPS employee who walks 10 miles to work – Today

Every workday for more than a year, Derrick Taylor woke up in the middle of the night to begin a five-mile walk to his 4 a.m. shift at UPS, a job that helps support his ailing mother.

His co-workers at the UPS center in Oxford, Alabama, were so impressed by his work ethic and dedication that they pitched in for a life-changing gift that left the 19-year-old in tears.

UPS driver helps Phoenix officer detain suspect – ABC 15

According to police, the officer chased after the suspect, and as he was gaining ground on him, the suspect turned around and fought with the officer.

The officer was able to deploy his taser several times, but it had no effect. The officer was eventually able to catch the suspect and take him to the ground.

While the officer and suspect were struggling on the ground, UPS driver Adam Faz stopped and helped the officer gain control of the situation. Faz was on his regular route when he spotted the officer wrestling.

UPS airplane mechanics want to walk away from labor negotiations – Louisville Business First

The two sides have reached an impasse on health insurance — something we’ve been writing about for months now. In a news release, the Teamsters accuse UPS of trying to implement massive reductions in health benefits for these 1,200 maintenance workers. The union also said the company wants reductions in benefits for retirees.

U.S. labor laws contain many protections that aim to prevent a strike from happening at a major airline, as UPS has pointed out many times during our coverage of this. But the Teamsters argue that a strike could still happen.

New FCRA Class Action Against UPS Shows Traditional FCRA Claims Alive and Well – jdsupra

… a recent lawsuit against UPS reminds employers to maintain continued vigilance against traditional FCRA background check claims. In a case filed on February 13, 2017, Riley v. United Parcel Service of America, Inc, Case No. 6:17-cv-00254, the plaintiff alleges that in November 2016, UPS offered him a job as a customer service representative, subject to a background check. Subsequently, on November 14, 2016, UPS notified plaintiff that the company was revoking the offer due to information revealed in the background check report, without ever telling him what the information was or giving him an opportunity to discuss the information.

Thereafter, Riley brought claims under FCRA alleging that that the company failed to provide him a copy of the report, failed to notify him of his rights under the FCRA, and failed to allow him to respond to the information.

UPS to deliver $2.3 billion pension contribution, pays out $685 million in lump sums – Pensions & Investments

United Parcel Service Inc., Atlanta, plans to contribute $2.3 billion to its U.S. defined benefit plans in 2017, the company announced in a 10-K filing with the SEC.

UPS also announced in the 10-K it made $685 million in lump-sum payments in the fourth quarter to about 22,000 former employees in the company’s U.S. defined benefit plans.

UPS had made the offer to about 50,000 former employees who were vested in the U.S. defined benefit plans but who had yet to retire. The population consisted of former employees in non-union and some union plans who had terminated their UPS employment between July 2003 and June 2016.
