Man I couldn't do that at all. Would've had it out with the driver if necessary and if he didn't sharpen up, would've called the center and demanded a ride back.
...or switched seats with him...

I think every location is about the same with different faces. You have the ones that run scared, the ones who follow the contract to the letter, and some that are in the middle.

He didn't have DOT hours available to driveThe very first time he did something stupid I would have told him to pull over and switch seats. I don't care if I was coded as a helper or driver-----no way I am getting hurt or killed by some maroon.

Don't care. No way I am sitting in the jump seat with an idiot behind the wheel.
Get out and walk. You don't want that kind of DOT violation.Don't care. No way I am sitting in the jump seat with an idiot behind the wheel.
Yup. So, if the driver won't oblige a request to drive safely, you jump ship and call the center for a ride. You don't disregard DOT hours.
That's not a minor DOT infraction.Screw that noise.
Screw that noise.
80 hours next week..KEEP THAT VOLUME ROLLIN UNION BROTHERS
80 hours next week..
He never was much for the rules. That mentality weakens your credibility. Got to follow the rules. Simply exiting the package car keeps you out of harms way.
My boss said I can Uber out some extra volume after 80. Just have to clock into one of those phones under an assumed name.80 hours next week..
80 hours? I’m just getting warmed up ...give me 100 hours80 hours next week..
KEEP THAT VOLUME ROLLIN UNION BROTHERS
I got lucky , they didn’t want me to be a helper for 8 hrs double time... DEMAND YOUR 8 on Saturday they will think twice before bringing you in.I think I've finally gotten clear info. Neither the Central supp nor our local rider protect us here against a forced 6th punch. Exhausting and/or having less than 8 DOT hours doesn't protect us against getting assigned the jump seat.
More power to the drivers eager for a 6th punch. To me the money isn't worth the lost time off, the increased risks of injury and accident, the hazard to the public. My immediate plan the rest of peak is simple: double down on the methods.
While the company obviously doesn't mind that much paying us boatloads of OT, seems they never stop caring about production numbers haha. Talked with a driver in my loop who was called into the office Fri re: production. I won't absolutely lay down, but if I have to look forward to driving right at 60 M-friend then spending my S jumping, and a gracious 1 day off to 'recover' from the extra-strenuous week, then starting M I adopt a 70-plus hr pace.
I say we start getting the word out re: insisting on legitimate protections against unwanted OT, even during god-blasted peak, for 2023.
