Never heard anything about rapist, although he definitely sympathized with Socialism communism. Doesn’t detract from his importance in the civil rights movement. All human beings are flawed. It’s us who sets them on a pedestal they probably never asked for, or deserved. Doubtful any of us could stand up to the scrutiny.
