Anyone else warning customers?

The extra help at our large express station is contracting with local courier companies (those people who CAN"T work elsewhere!) Last week they had some come in to help. They didn't release the resi's, they brought them back. Gonna be a long 4 weeks to Christmas.

What you read was inaccurate.
The 95k seasonal helpers for UPS has been mentioned across the news media but so is Fed Ex bringing in 50k seasonal helpers.

I haven't heard anything about FedEx bringing-in 50,000 people. They all quit anyways, so how is that going to help, assuming that you're telling the truth? Austin Powers is my hero, baby!! Your Austin was a wanker!!

Last year we didn't get caught up until New Years eve. Rotting food, dead flowers, thousands of xmas packages just sitting in station. The only thing changed this year is we have extra power pad batteries and a bunch of new handlers.

Saw a posting at our station that is offering temporary jobs as runners to your "friends and neighbors ". Handlers also being offered extra hours to act as runners, so don't tell ME that upper management doesn't have a firm grip on the situation.:clown:

My terminal did fine last year and is going to be fine this year. I had 196 stops Wednesday and 212 today. We just hire supplemental drivers and give all the permenant drivers their tightest areas. Most contractors just don't prepare well enough.

Sooo, I turned on the news this morning and they are interviewing an Ops Mgr at a local station. Reporter asked him when the drop dead date was for shipping. He responded, December 23. Why did he not follow it up with, but we encourage everyone to shop/ship early? Sigh.

People aren't gonna listen anyway. Customers will still be clicking the mouse on the afternoon of December 24th thinking we'll provide some kind of miracle for them.

Yep. I see no slowdown in retailers making promises they can't possibly fulfill. Like Fred, Christmas only means one thing...enhanced revenue. Promise them anything, get their money, and then, make it Hell to get it back.

I personally hate Christmas commercialism, and only view the holiday as an opportunity to spend quality time with family and friends.

Attention shippers: Today’s your last day to get guaranteed ground delivery until after Christmas.

That’s because, starting tomorrow, both United Parcel Service and FedEx suspend their money-back guarantees for ground delivery times until after Dec. 25. It’s a long-standing holiday tradition for the big delivery companies reflecting the surge in package volume as e-commerce — and sweaters from Grandma — take off.

The move doesn’t just affect shoppers. No one who sends a package via the two companies by ground will enjoy any guaranteed delivery times

Now if only people will take heed.

That explains why I saw a couple of trains loaded with UPS trailers yesterday. The BNSF cannot expedite a train and UPS does not have a service guarantee right now.

Why would you "warn" FedEx customers. Why do you care. Just deliver you packages. I don't get it.
You don't have any regular customers you like? Customers you see everyday, once a week or maybe even only once a month? I'm relatively new on my route, but there are a few customers I've already gotten to know. A few I like, a few I don't care for.

Late next week also starts the yearly cycle of "Company panic, send out referendum to now move all Ground packages over to Air" and then Air blows up, would have been quicker shipping Ground.
