Anybody can be a full blown alcoholic as long as you’re brown’d up sober. Although if you light up a J once a month you’re done for. We’re all adults here last time I checked.
Yes, you can drink as long as you’re not sauced on the job. Pretty sure every occupation currently available has the same rule. As far as marijuana goes, we all know UPS doesn’t drug test you guys unless you are involved in an accident and once again, every job will drug test you after an accident. Of course they randomly test us in feeders but that’s only because that is required by DOT. It’s not Ups’ rule.

Need to be careful with this one. You might feel sober but if you have alcohol still in your blood from the night before then it's "bye bye Felicia ".

Yeah I wouldn’t know. I don’t drink on work nights.
Me either.

We have a lot of young drivers and they use to share their stories of 4am benders than coming to work the next day. One almost got fired because he smelled like alcohol and was going to be tested but they just sent him home. If he was tested he would have been fired.

I don’t know how/why they do it. I knew a girl who just started working here who came in drunk and she was stopped by someone when they noticed her aimlessly wandering around the hub. They instantly fired her. Wouldn’t even let her drive home, someone had to come pick her up and she had a friend drive her car back. The girl had issues.

These guys are young and dumb. They don't realized the career opportunity they have.

After our weekly Thirsty Thursday nights out 3/4ths of the crew could have probably been fired Friday morning. That includes management --especially one particular center manager. He was a lush.

There was a driver in my old delivery center who reeked of alcohol every day, it was so bad you didn't want to stand next to him at the pcm. This went on for years and management never said or did anything, once I even heard our on car joking about it. A few years ago he went for his DOT physical and for whatever reason he told them how much he drank every day, they refused to certify him and he's been working in the building ever since.

Let me guess it was because he wasn't driving? We already had this discussion.

It came down to he came to work with the intentions of driving a commercial vehicle = fired. The union was involved.
He came to work with the intentions of driving, got random tested, failed called dispatch told them what happened sent him home and he had to complete a alcohol program. Wasn't fired.

Many a night we closed the bar and then continued drinking at a nearby park.
Would drive to NEMPLS Hub and sleep in the parking lot until start time.
When Maple Grove opened we would drink in the gravel pit next door until it was fenced off and we couldn't get in.
By then I wasn't drinking every night after work. Only once or twice for old times sake.

Being half drunk was the norm in the 80s
