In the state's proposed 2023-2024 budget, $750 million was allocated to start paying down the loans, until Governor Gavin Newsom nixed the provision in early January, leaving businesses in the state responsible for the loans, as mandated by federal regulations - so that the federal unemployment tax rate of .6 percent will increase by .3% per year starting in 2023 until the loan is extinguished.

It seems to be the biggest cities with understandably the most issues. Remember the L.A. district attorney was nearly recalled for being soft on crime. And Uhaul is doing huge business renting to those fleeing the state. They charge high amounts for their trucks then charge a lot less to get the trucks back to California where the real money is being made. @MAKAVELI loves his state but if he's honest with himself he is concerned that more people are now leaving California than moving there and many are the wealthy who are taking their taxes with them.
Mak is waiting in hopes of getting his unearned reparations before the whole thing implodes.

Another store closes in SF
The San Francisco Chronicle reported Wednesday:

Coco Republic, an Australian furniture retailer that invested heavily in a San Francisco showroom off Union Square, abruptly announced Wednesday that it would be closing the store, less than a year after it opened on Stockton Street, across the street from Macy’s.
The reason given was safety of its shoppers, along with a significant drop in foot traffic that has not returned since the COVID-19 lockdowns of 2020 and 2021, according to a statement released to The Chronicle.
“We invested extraordinary time and capital in our initial U.S. flagship store in Union Square,” said Anthony Spon-Smith, Coco Republic’s creative director and founder, who is based in Sydney. “Less than six months from opening, we could not be more disappointed to be shuttering this flagship location in our sister city, but ultimately, the safety and well-being of our customers and employees is our highest priority.

Over about the last two years, burglars have hit the shop so many times, owner Chris Callaway lost track of the actual number.
He shared photos of the damage, including an empty display where a thief had cut a pricey e-bike loose.
A side door was repeatedly broken in half so many times, Callaway eventually sealed it off completely.
He said the last straw came a few months ago, when a man just rode off with a bike during business hours.
"A little bit bittersweet," Callaway said of the closure. "Part of me is kind of happy to go home and hopefully get a little bit more rest versus getting calls from the alarm company. That was pretty stressful."

Seems to me that a cannabis shop would have a lot more break-ins than a bike shop, but what do I know.
