I'm a loader, I've worked here for 7 months without ever calling out except for a time when it snowed 2 feet and no one showed up anyway. I know it's gonna be busy today since we weren't there yesterday but I really feel sick. I know it's apparently forbidden to call off during peak, but would I be able to call off sick today? Would they give me much of a problem since I never called out before?
  2. Who cares. Take the day. You've earned it.

Depending on your area you may not be paid for the holiday if you don't work the workday before and after.

In my area you must work one of them.

I'm assuming you aren't going to get paid for the holiday, regardless, since you have less than a year of service. They're going to give you a problem but can't do much more than write you up. Sick is sick, stay home.

Its usually more a case of "lets bust a route" at the last minute.

Not during summer's cut 30 stops out of this, that, him, and that guy and find an empty truck...instant split route. Rinse and repeat until Labor day.

My center (3 centers in my building) runs 20 extra routes in the summer to handle summer peak volume. Our volume is heavier now than Xmas peak.

Yeah sorry, I've been allowed to cross the street by myself since I was 7.

In my area you have to work one day during the payroll period for that holiday to get paid for it.

Today I was hammered with add cuts but my loop mates were not. I had over 2 hours more work.

My on car texted me and then followed up with a phone call to see if I wanted to work today. I guess they got slammed. My son is home for the week and we have plans so I told him I would see him on Monday.
