Can New, Low Seniority Feeder be Sent to Package?

So probably don't go chasing waterfalls and keep my route and slow down and try to keep my body alive. I'd rather suffer through my route than get thrown to some center or city I don't know at bottom seniority.

Or look for a new job...

Really wish we'd all voted and voted no on that contract. Gonna get worse. Gonna lose a lot of good people. Young and old.

They did it all the time in Central. You want to hear someone cry --- be there when a feeder drive is told they will be going to package for awhile. (Funny as hell).

The first time I was sent back to packages, the center manager asked me if I was going to do a good job for him.

I knew all the package guys, and knew which one was the laziest, worst driver in the center. His name was John.

I told the center manager that I was going to make John look like a superstar.

He got pissed and told me that the policy was that anyone who is more than an hour over will be in his office every morning.

I told him that I will be bringing the coffee every morning and he needs to bring the donuts.

He got even more pissed and said that if I'm more than 2 hours over the DM will be in the meeting.

I told the center manager to tell him to bring the cinnamon buns.

I never saw anyone get so angry in my entire life. I ran 3 hours over for the 3 weeks I was in bundles and never heard a peep from the center manager.

I could not imagine having to go back to package. When I was on the list for feeders just waiting to be called to start, I had read on here that you could be bumped back to package. Walking out one night I saw a feeder driver I knew waiting for a load. I asked him when I come to feeders I can be sent back to package, when it’s slow? He looked at me like I was crazy. He says what are you smoking? Who told you that? Hell no. Once you’re in feeders you never go back. That was a relief.

I bet that taught them a lesson.

Dumb question. IF you can't be sent back to package are you laid off then if there is no work for you?

No. it would never come to it for someone with my seniority but if there is not enough feeder work you work on the pallet dock for 8 hours a day, or you can take voluntary lay-off. It’s almost all street guys here who get laid off. As far as I know no one was laid off this year probably because of Covid it was busy. Every year we usually have between 10-15 feeder drivers laid off weekly between Feb-May.

So you prefer no pay over actually working?

I know guys who take the layoff. I know guys who bump 2 part timers. I know guys who are forced back to packages.

Just depends on the supplement and the center what the options are.

But yes, you are correct. A lot of feeder drivers don't want to work for a living, even if it might only be for a couple of weeks. So they take the layoff.

And in the Central, they can take the layoff and collect unemployment.

I believe in Mn. you have to be laid off for something like 10 days before you can file. If you meet the requirements you get paid from day one BUT UPS has a habit of calling you into work (lean on a broom) just enough to screw up your Unemployement qualifications. Something like that

There is always work if you want it. Most of our guys would rather take a day off then go back to package though.

At one time we had 5 feeder routes but we ended up with only one because our center manager was too lazy to fight for them.

When I first started our center was serviced by ONE 52 foot trailer that also went on and serviced another center farther north. Most days the trailer was only about 3/4 full handling BOTH centers. Have I told you lately how tough we had it?
52?

Hey all,

It looks like the time has come physically for me to move on to feeder. The company wants to normalize our new volume, and no thanks.

My question: if I go feeder and pass probation and become a coded FT feeder, can they force me to a random hub to cover package if there's no work for me?

Basically, I'm toast physically. I can't and never want to step in and out of a car more than 200 times ever again. Feeder is my last ditch effort to stay in this career, or I'm tapping out (cause I sure as :censored2: ain't going management).

Thanks for answers and sorry if its been asked before.
How many years do you have in the company? Ever thought about bidding into a 22.3?

If you were an inside PT that went to feeders and were on the Qlist for two years can you forfeit and replace two PT to get your eight hours? Or do you go into package seeing you had temp drive before?

Can you even forfeit while on the Qlist when there are no bids/vacancies posted up for the building?
