In 2011, my family started a fundraising program in our small rural community, with all proceeds benefitting a local 501c3 that supports cancer patients. I attempted to have my UW contributions directed their way only to find that it wasn't an option...nor were any other registered non-profits in my entire county. Why would I continue to give to UW when absolutely no help goes to the community that I live in? All money that we raise is done so by volunteers with zero overhead costs, and all of it stays local. If you're wanting to truly help those in need, look for local support groups that have YOUR communities best interest at heart.
