Contract talks !!!!!! STRIKE !!!!!!

As soon as people sniff that there is contract problems they will start pulling out fast. Fed Ex and the post office couldn't handle our volume in 1997. A lot of packages sat and customers were pissed. Ups will be better prepared but so will the competition. The real gamble is up to UPS but why mess with something not broken?

Oh UPS is prepared. They have all these dumbed down systems in place so a maroon army could fill in. With little to no training. But a strike is really bad for everyone. Especially UPS customers who'll lose faith immediately and bounce to FedEx without a sad thought for us.

If these UPS negotiators are expecting a compromise to "meet in the middle"... We need to come to the table with a wages/benefits offer that is just as ridiculous as theirs. Something like $5 a year in raises. And free healthcare provided to our extended families as well. So when we "compromise" on our offers, we will meet in the middle, but it will be a more appropriate middle.

I agree! If we cant compromise and make a deal that works for both sides the only concessions i would consider would be for new hires. Maybe somthing like they have to work 2 yrs before they get healthcare. Or they have to pay a certain amount weekly. The current teamsters(part and full time) should not have to worry about a pay cut!

Not brotherly to take from the un-born to keep yours. Shared sacrifice.

so the current part timers should sacrifice for new hires? Why didnt full timers sacrifice for part timers all these yrs?

lol... you're about to hear 101 excuses for that...

But bottom line is that we Full-timers had enough union participation to take the contract in our direction. We chose to take the bigger slice of the pie while leaving part-timers the scraps. Brotherhood only extends so far I guess!

I sacrifice my sanity and my spinal cord every stinking day!! We went on strike for you in 1997. Part timers wanted more full time jobs available to them because it took so long to go driving. That's why we have the 22-3 jobs.

UPS did not keep their word and failed to create as many jobs as they promised but we did go to the mat for you guys.

The main slogan of the strike—“Part-time America won’t work”—struck a deep chord with many people. While the Teamster spokespeople, led by Carey, were extremely articulate, they were more than matched by strikers on the picket lines.

So 22.3 was important enough to go to strike over, but not important enough to follow up to ensure it was being done? Doesn't anyone think that maybe, just maybe the teamsters wanted to strike over something else? Like perhaps the pension fund?

A strike has to be authorized by the membership. But with increasing our stops per car every week, the company seems to want to push us into a strike, especially with such an opening negotaition like pay into our healthcare, flexible start times and work Sunday thru Saturday!

In my building a lot of the good 22.3 jobs went to drivers tired of driving any more. Replacement drivers were hired off the street based on the 4 inside to 1 outside hire ratio. Screwed again.
