You really don’t want to do that. Once you discover how much you hate it and how you aren’t being paid any extra for the responsibility, it will be extremely difficult to get out of it.

Think about it. Working with stuff that could harm you for the same pay you're getting now. You take the risk and FedEx gets the reward.

Consider it a blessing in disguise. Anything extracurricular you do for FedEx will be expected for as long as you’re with the company. In addition, managers will see you as a go getter and will pile as much of their responsibilities on top of you as they can until you finally put your foot down. Once you do, you’ll be on their s * *t list. Hope you have a smooth recovery from COVID.

I would question the advice of anyone telling you to avoid increasing your knowledge and skill set.
Normally, I would agree with this thought. But in this case, no. I’ve heard from way too many DG specialists who hate the job and couldn't wait for the day they could stop doing it. I only know of one person in all my years who never complained about it and never tried to get out of it. He’s been doing it over 30 years.

And it’s not just 10 tons of extra responsibility for no extra pay. If you approve a shipment with your DG stamp and that shipment causes a problem (eg: explodes, catches fire), you are responsible and can be fined or prosecuted.

The only justification for being DG qualified is if you plan to become a manager.

Exactly. If you’re planning on becoming a manager, it’s probably something you should consider. If not, it’s just extra work, extra responsibility, and extra liability without one red cent of extra pay.

No you aren't. You are only responsible for making sure the shipment is properly packaged, properly marked, and that the paperwork is correct.

So if you fail in that responsibility and it blows up a plane, no biggie, right? They'll just tell you not to do it again?

You mainly fail when you are not qualified to do the job. Just like why you failed when you attempted to be a courier. It's not for everyone as evidenced by you.

Yeah, I couldn’t cut it pressing a gas pedal so I went to grad school instead. Do you enjoy sounding dumb?
