At least they're not talking about your wife when they say that.
I'd just whip around and say, I think I can do better, too, as you look your supe in the eyes.:wink2:

allright here i go although i'll still be vague in some areas. Name is pickup. I am in feeders for about 5 years and sigh... i know this will piss some of you off but i was an off the street hire although if it is any consolation when i was living in new york city (queens and brooklyn) I did many many deliveries in nyc delivering soda pop in a straight truck and small combination tractor trlr unit. That sort of stuff can kill your knees as you make an in thebasement delivery with the hand truck and your shoulders take a beating as well. When 9/11 hit, I was supposed to make three deliveries to the wtc that day,a sbaros, some other i cant remember, and windows on the world on top of one of the building. As luck would have it, as i drove past a lower midtown delivery , i saw that they were open (not for business yet ) for delivery (which not always the case). After i spent twenty minutes there, headed toward wtc and saw the results of the first plane hit and turned my ass around and headed back to queens. Job was affected afterwards, got laid off and moved to jersey because didn't know if nyc would bounce back . i'll continue in next posting

Lemme also just say even if got to the wtc on my normal time. I would most likely would have been waiting on the line that snakes into the wtc as security was already tight there due to the 93 bombing attempt so no i didn't cheat death and the only post traumatic stress i get from remembering the idle months afterward as i went to crap on layoff watching the smoking remains of the wtc from the stoop of the house i lived in. anyway moved to nj , got a job tractor trailering over the road and then local. At an everyday stop became friendly with a ups driver and one day i told him my company was going belly up. Told me about the casual/temp situation at his ups terminal. Gave it a shot. Learned doubles, did whatever they told me, took my lumps . and got called back 5 months later. 6 package delivery drivers to 1 outside hire deal.

anyway in closing, i try to love it here , compared to what i used to do, esp over the road driving. Have my run ins with management but i realized that they were kids too once with dreams and are now working in numbers oriented environment that they are more of prisioners of then we will ever be. Got and still get ( and I give ) help from my fellow upsers (who are a breed apart , a breed i strive to become more like everyday). So with that said, my only postings on this forum will be of a positive note(trust me I can be a sarcastic sob but not here) We got enough negativity in our working lives (traffic , four wheelers without a clue just looking for an accident) . I'll only post about what I know and if I post about a subject that in retrospect looks like i don't know what i am talking about i am sure i will be corrected (i.e my suggestion for powering a cell phone in a package car, my only saving grace is that my posting and responses to it prompted someone else to come out of the woodworks to post a good solution, SO THERE! ) Anyway, work and live somewhere in new jersey am single and never married (after watching the example set by my parents, and realizing that i wasn't going to produce the next einstein, decided against it. Although there was this one girl in high school, sigh..... My hobbies have really condensed over the years to just being happy finding a place to take a # 2., getting to and from the barn in one piece and making sure that i have enough time to put somewhat nutritious food in the cupboard as there is no mrs. pickup to do the grocery shopping while i am out and about at work. Maybe more than you wanted to know, but that is how I became a member of the ups brunch. I am sure that my off the street status will irk some and i understand that completely as i remember being passed up in soda pop for pure tractor trailer bulk shipments by less qualified , less senior members and it bothered me. I apologize for that feeling if exists amongst some of you. I could have omitted this fact but I felt this thread (thanks steve ) gave me the invitation to let it all hang out there.

and christ , now i am shaking thinking about those days after 9/11 with no work , just staring at that smoke( went on for two months at least) thinking about what happened to those people (and i knew and bumped into quite a few of them and a lot of them were not saints- some were ) but when i think of the firefighters, especially the ones that run into a building after its twin already fell, that is heroicism at its finest, a standard that I don't know I could meet if the circumstances were to one day find me.) I think that day made the cynic in me realize that people do have nobility in them and that is what i try to look for in people now and i try to ignore ( up to a point of course) the failings that they have .After all i am not perfect , lord knows that better than me but he has yet to condemn me so why should I condemn others? oh well, i rambled on too much and i guess i don't have to post this but i don't want to delete the salute to the firefighters so here it goes. I'm gonna throw it up against the wall

oh and i am in my early 40s so take what i say with a grain of salt, i am still trying to figure life out. When I am 70, then i will be a know it all and i can bitch about how these virtual reality sets being hardwired into kid's brains is what is ruining society as well as cloning spare parts in case one's body starts falling apart is also bad as it encourages excess drinking because a new liver can always be had. :happy-very:
