Akron clerk shoots and kills robbery suspect, police say




AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) - Police said an employee at a beauty supply company shot and killed a robbery suspect.

Akron police said two armed men entered the Royal Beauty Supply Store in the 900 block of S. Arlington Street just after 7 p.m. Friday.

According to officers, both men were wearing masks.

During the robbery, officers said a 26-year-old store clerk pulled out his own gun and shot one of the suspects.

After the shooting, the second suspect fled the store.

The Beacon Journal identified the deceased suspect as 19-year-old Ameer Majed Ismail. Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office Chief Investigator Gary Guenther indicated Ismail was shot in the head.

USA Today reports a total of 202,465 background checks were performed that day, a figure bested only by the 203,086 background checks performed on Black Friday 2017.

The Black Friday figures boost already soaring background check figures for 2019.

On November 26, Breitbart News reported that there had been 22,858,104 background checks conducted between January 1, 2019, and the end of October 2019. The record for one year is 27.5 million checks.

KVII reports that the incident occurred just before 9 p.m. when the two suspects allegedly entered the store with a shotgun.

KDFA reports that the suspects allegedly threatened to rob the store, at which time the clerk shot them. Police were called and both suspects “were transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.”

The clerk was not injured in the incident.
