I don't know anything about Chinese culture, but from the American context, you can see men going back to the start of the industrial age worried about declining manhood or men being soft or men expressing themselves outside of this idea of masculinity. It just brings to mind that a lot of what we think is natural about human nature is really just socialization and performance that has to be policed constantly by social norms.
At the root of this stuff is the foolish idea that if this group of human beings doesn't behave in this pre ordained or natural way, your society will be destroyed either internally or externally because your society will lose favor with GOD by going against nature.

Not with human beings. Human beings can change nature to add stuff in more abundance like crops, fruits, it can take natural resources and change those natural resources outside of their natural state. Human beings are not tied to or limited by nature like other inhabitants of this planet.

No it won't. People in America have been worrying about the decline of masculinity in America at least since the start of the industrial age. If Americans have been saying American manhood has been in decline for hundreds of years and yet America thrives in many aspects, these beliefs about human nature as it relates to manhood or womanhood performances determining the fate of your society are superstitions

This is objectively true. Other inhabitants of this planet cannot grow food, they can only eat the food that exists. So if their species gets to large to support the food supply they'll die off. Human beings so far don't have that constraint. We are able to increase the food supply to support more human beings.
Human beings take natural resources that exist on the earth and chemically change those resources into things to improve our lives. If you are shortsighted or have asthma or diabetes or have heart disease or certain other diseases human beings treat and cure those illnesses so you aren't at the mercy of body's nature in all cases.
So the idea that if men or women don't behave in some pre ordained natural way that means the destruction of your society has zero basis in reality. It is an irrational belief.
The ideas of manhood and womanhood have been changing as long as human beings have existed and attempted to label and define such concepts.
