Happens all the time at my building. If you DQ a FT driving job you are offered a PT air driving job with the promise of another chance in 6 months. Then you work 10 hour days running ground because we are so short of drivers. But you are gaining experience for the next time you attempt to qualify.

I can see that, but he's saying he will start PT. Not he will be PT if he fails.

Hi,

I've just been offered a 22.4 Combination Driver position out of the Farmingville, NY UPS location. The "interview" was extremely basic, barely asked anything about me, other than my driving record.
I also learned the position is part-time until approximately 40-70 days. So, I have a couple 22.4 questions:

- Do they mass hire for this position? I'm wondering if I'll be one of a large number of folks competing for very few actual friend/T positions as 22.4
- Anyone have experience as a 22.4? From searching, it appears to be quite new. The HR said they hire regular package car drivers out of 22.4, but I'm wondering how realistic that is?
- I know of a former co-worker who was hired as a legit friend/T package car driver (not 22.4) as an external hire- when that happens (which I've heard is pretty uncommon compared to internal promotion), is that a more thorough interview process than what I just had?

Thank you!!
Once you’re are a 22.4, you’ll always be a 22.4. RPCD is no longer a position as far as a new hire

That would be great.

It's the truth. Thanks Dennis
22.4 list went up about a week ago in only one of my centers in the hub... People are afraid to sign it, but were told it's a stepping stone for the RPCD position. So no more hiring cover drivers. The process in my location is, Part Timer bids to 22.4 then bids to RPCD. It's a smart move finanically for UPS, because they will save a ton of money etc.

You can't pass a full time bid. Especially the way this company is driving itself into the ground

Amen, that's why the union workers got fuxed with this contract... They want all cover drivers who are now making 31 dollars an hour to take the 22.4 position at 20 dollars an hour starting, but will gain 40 hours guaranteed. So they are making you believe it's a trade off.. A lot of employees do not READ the contract, the cover drivers are red circled at their rate. If they don't file, UPS will get over with the lower rate..

Language is always key.
Unfortunately everyone only reads how much of a raise I am getting.
