Trainee Package Handler
I don't know how to properly secure a conveyor belt. They demonstrated it to me one time on video and I never saw it again.

Ok guys thanks, I'm just scared I'm gonna fail then get terminated. My supervisor said it never happened before, but still the possibility is what scares me.

Don't steal, go to work at least 4 times a week, and don't get hurt. You might get lucky and be asked to become a supervisor by third week.

You don't need to be to shut a belt down. Hit the stop button and put the clip on it if there is a clip.

Lock out is an entirely different process.

Yeah, it's lock out that requires a specialist. However, the person who stops the belt is also the one who starts it back up. This stuff is stuck in my noggin now, lmao.

I'll be a package handler for 7 years then either quit when my game dev company takes off or seek a promotion while inheriting the family businesses during the day. that's the plan for now.

Find out how many hours you have to work per year to have that year count towards your PT pension then work that many plus a little more.

Thank me in 30 or so years.

First day tomorrow on the 5-9 shift. I believe the position they are needing to fill is local sort? Can anyone give me some insight on what to expect tomorrow?

You gonna be unloading, picking off, small sort, loading or clerk? With all except clerk, expect to be lifting a lot of packages, very quickly.

Thanks for the quick response.
I am unsure really what I will be doing, a friend who has worked there for quite a while said this was a local sort position?
I am well aware of the physical part of the job and am mentally preparing myself to jump right in.

There may be other positions, depending on your building, but those are the main ones that most local sorts will have. Basically you are unloading all the packages that the drivers pick up during the day and sorting them and loading them into the correct trailers. There will be thousands of packages, depending on the size of your building, possibly over ten thousand. You will likely start unloading cars or loading trailers. Both are fast paced, and you will be very sore until you adjust. Drink lots of water.

So for all you newbies Welcome to Brown cafe!

Take some time to look around and search on subjects of interest, such as pay rate, progression, union issues, dues, etc. Just use the drop down menu on the search icon. Never be afraid to ask "dumb" questions, as nothing is dumb, if you don't know. But there is a wealth of knowledge and info, already stored in the archives.

Enjoy your stay, and we know you will enjoy the Cafe!!

And thanks to Iggyiam for thinking of the idea!! This should eliminate several posts about the same issue.
