All those poor folks that traveled up to northern VT & NH to see the eclipse had the worst commute back.
Roads were backed up for hours with everyone leaving at once.
Especially all the EV owners who had to endure additional hours long waits at charging stations.
As one resident commented that she didn't know that many Teslas even existed.

Livesey, who is from Wakefield, Massachusetts, and drove to Vermont in an EV on Monday to see the total solar eclipse, said her return home was made worse for her family — as well as other Tesla owners — when they all had to search for charging stations in rural areas.
“I got there with one mile only to find out there were about 60 cars waiting to be charged,” Livesey told the outlet.
The Livesey family reportedly helped a couple try to organize the lines by handing out numbers that made electric vehicle drivers wait their turn to charge.
The Livesey family ended up waiting more than four hours to charge their Tesla, and got home at 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday. They noted that the last ticket they handed out was number 189, and that they saw more people pulling up to the charging stations as they left.

Globally, all-electric sales at the owner of Audi, Skoda and Porsche dropped by 3pc to 136,400, while sales of combustion engine cars climbed 4pc to nearly two million.
In September, Rishi Sunak, the Prime Minister, pushed back a deadline to block new petrol and diesel sales in the UK from 2030 to 2035. Incentives for drivers buying new EVs were scrapped in 2022.

this means more congestion more rush hour.

however europe was already headed in the real right direction which is public transit.

its really a debate between auto corporations vs public transit.

Its too late for us to consider mass public transportation. All the street car tracks and a LARGE majority of the railroad tracks were torn up years ago and sold off for profits for a few big wigs. Minneapolis / St. Paul has tried to operate a new commuter train but for the most part all I ever hear about it is the crime that takes place on it or at the stations-----or the druggies it runs over all the time because they are too stoned to get out of the way.

Public transport is not too late. europe is currently building new high speed trains as we speak. you can hire police for the stations. these are middle class jobs. the auto corporations business model is unsustainable so it will end anyways.

So instead of waiting for the traffic to clear in the comfort of one's own vehicle.
People should enjoy the company of strangers in a public bus for hours instead.
public transit is superior. you dont have to drive. it can be luxurious. and no rush hour problem solved. and there can be security. there could be no fees as well - you will never get that driving cars, at most the govt will pay you something for buying electric.

Maybe in Europe they choose luxury buses, but here due to tight budgets, all they provide is the cheapest models made.
Many fleets are scrapping their new EVs buses for older gas burning models, since the EVs keep breaking down.
