Possible career change

Most of the drivers they hired were preloaders. But a lot of those drivers couldn't take the stress that came with being a driver and are now preloaders again..Now they're hiring off the street because they ran out of people to hire within the building.

The preloaders used to have the most success when going driving because they were more familiar with how the trucks were loaded and most were able to practice driving package cars around and parking them. Almost every preloader qualified. No doubt the driving is more stressful but the pay is also a lot better.

From what I've noticed they favored people here. A guy who wasn't even there for 6 months (I have more seniority) got to test before a guy who's been there 2 years and was also on the sign up. I wasn't allowed to practice but for 10 minutes whilst one guy was allowed for a whole week. I didn't pass my road test, I think I would have had the tester not been on his phone talking to people. Oh well. Doesn't matter now, broken fingers..

I preloaded before I went driving and spent a lot of time car shifting before I bid to go full time. My driving test was just drive around the block for 15-20 minutes. I wasn't worried about being able to drive a package car.

My test was 40 minutes! Had to drive freeway to north side of the city and go up this tiny ass road.

took my road test for feeder position. hadn't driven tractor trailer in 8 years and passed. All told with pre-trip, road test, and post-trip, took about 1 1/2 hours

It was far less formal then. You weren't graded on points. It was just the sup believing you could handle the driving and they could tell in very few minutes.
Oh..the sup was too busy texting and being on his phone to notice. Really ticked me off.
