Found this in Lake Erie about 25 yrs ago...took it to a local college..they wanted to cut it up..to have it tested..its real pretty..

Is it flourescent? Or is that an effect of the lighting? Looks real glassy like obsidian, but I don't know of any varieties that fluoresce.

I found some specimens over the summer that I had a hard time identifying. I ended up learning a lot about amphibole and pyroxene minerals. Still didn't pinpoint the exact type, but determined it was likely an amphibole, sometimes referred to as hornblende, which is the same family of minerals as asbestos and jade.

This is the mineral I found. The shininess threw me. Thought it might be galena, anthracite coal, even a different type of obsidian. But I did all sorts of tests on it to narrow it down.
