You are correct that the public opinion won't be behind us. Bit the shareholders will just off faster than a passenger from the Titanic

Still young, And I have gone out occasionally for these kinds of things (far less than I feel I should). The group is very local oriented. Canvassing for people that want to start a union and a general rally. Cant talk more specific or risk giving away my super secret identity.

Public generally does not "disagree" they simply avoid. Like a homeless guy peddling on the street they walk right past you like you don't exist.

Don't be surprised if I bring some socialists along with me. Fun group, they bake lots of goodies, might anger some pro-life teamsters though.

Possibility of strike in my belief: %40-45
Possibility of a clearly worse contract in my belief: %30
Possibility of a clearly better contract in my belief: %30

For some, most definitely. The biggest reason drivers crossed the picket line last time. "Got to make my truck payment."
Never had 1 driver cross in 97 here.
Put those 10 overweights on top you Prius
Fixed it.
I mean, just look at the state of the USA and the state of Unions in general. Take a good, hard, look at it. Yes, you are teamsters, you are on the inside, and I support you 100% .... but I don't believe public opinion will be with be with you guys this time.
Nah dude youre wrong. By 07-31-18 the company will have hired half the US population as part timers like a revolving door and theyll know that it sucks to do this job too.

I am very much of the opinion we will strike in August. I realize my center is but a microcosum of UPS as a whole but this is what I am seeing:

1) WAY too many drivers . 3-6 drivers are given the day off every day. The center is too fat

2) The company refuses to settle grievances. 2013-2016 Local Hearings were held every month and every couple of months we got grievance checks. The current thing for management to do now is to cancel the hearings on the scheduled date and push them off another month while the grievances keep piling up.

3) Alot of extra Management has appeared from Corporate to "assist" our management team

4) After 7 months of negotiating absolutely no movement has been made in the Southern Region Supplement Negotiations

I really think the company is trying to force a strike
Didn’t they only start meeting officially in January??

We're not striking. The company is desperate to pound their points in esrly. Heck, i heard on the 1st day of negotiations the company and the union broke for lunch break and the company never came back to the table.
Playing hard ball out of the gate tells me theres no real plan b.
This ones going to be interesting.

i heard they are going away from stick so they can hire more drivers. A lot of people cant drive stick
They get better gas mileage also... in feeder we have very few sticks left... mostly twin screw Mack’s...we don’t have any series of truck 273xxx and older left really..

I can inlo tell you our union is in the back pocket on this deal. Only way we can beat them is to vote it down

You forget one big wild card my friend. This isn't 1997. The shareholders will sell out so fast if they think of any possibility of a strike.
And target, Costco, amazon, Walmart.... and on and on... will NEVER come back to ups....they know that too...
