Teamster Buyout?

Hmmm, why do you think they company wants to get rid of drivers? Doesn't a trucking company need drivers??

There's only one reason I can see. It's because they want to go to a independent contractor model.

This is bad.
Yep, we are short drivers here and tons retiring soon . Why the heck would they do a buy out?
Oh wait …Amazon is taking over ..

You are part of the problem.
Nahhh buddy, my side hustle has always been strong.

I only need one punch per week for full pension and insurance. Why kill myself out there on the daily working long hours when I can dabble on the side and make my money.

We all have the right to handle our lives as we see fit, so long as I have a place to stay and ample food, kids are successfully out of solid college careers and into great careers and are model citizens/young responsible grown ups.... then I'm all good.

I suppose you are right, but as I mentioned in another reply recently on this same thread it's honestly like I've been retired for
10-15 years.
Being a Porter I of course can't take days off like I did as a driver, but it's ok as I haven't worked in so long. I honestly have worked more days in one year as a Porter than I have worked as a driver in maybe the last 6-7 years. Not gonna sit here and do the math but you get the idea.

Since they are obligated to hire 30k employees by 28 in the contract and because their business plan is to "get smaller," you wonder if their plan is to buyout employees in hopes that 30 or more thousand take it so that they can meet the contracted numbers?

Otherwise they will be breaking the 30k hires obligation.

I understand your point of view and I can agree to a certain extent. Yet I put in my time and earned my right to play this out how I feel it best works out for me.

Younger pups don't like it and they can just sit back and wait for 2 things basically.
1) I retire soon. 2) I drop dead soon.
First scenario is my call and the second I have no control over.

Yes a Porter, I'm assuming you have those in your building?

The cleaning/Base jobs that come available every so often that the highest seniority full timers grab.

By me it's a flat 8 hours // no OT // 30 minute PAID break. So working 7.5 and getting paid for 8, I like that. And if you think I'm working 7.5 hours well ya.....

Maybe there is a package car driver that needs a little more time to retire but his body is shot.
