Our pension fund requires 1000 hours for a full year pension credit. I worked 1050 hours my first year as a casual driver which allowed me to leave 9 months early with a 30 year pension.

We have two feeder drivers with ft seniority dates in the 70s. They only reason for them to refuse a buyout is spite.

It all boils down to how much longer you plan on working.

If they plan on 5 more, it's a bad offer.

Ah, but remember the inside members (part-time) are covered under the UPS pension plan, not the Union's plan. They don't want to have to begin paying out pensions all at once for eligible part-timers. They want to bankrupt the Union's pension plan by having a large group of older, high dollar earners all retire at once.

It means that if too many at one location accept the offer so that they do not have enough employees to staff their operation (yes, I see the irony), they will base the number of employees separated by seniority and only allow as many as they see fit to leave.
