Telematics...UPS is wiring your truck

Prblm found,part on order
Automotive can look into a side of telematics that the centers can't.
1. I can see if any sensors for telematics aren't working, causing you to be blamed for doing something wrong. I just think before the sups throw the knife at someone the need to check with automotive first.
We have had a lot of sensors fail for the bulkhead and the reverse and the seatbelt. and if they check with us first it saves everyone grief.
P.S I like your posts stug, you are an alright guy!!!

I don't think they can tell if it is in your hand, but they can tell if it is on while you are driving.

The GPS in the diad will show movement. It is used for virtual time studies. It is 100% accurate (told to me) and is constantly on at all times.

If you have it in your hand, it can measure distance as well as how far it was 'til you turned onto the customer's walkway. Just think of the Diad as an Etch-a-sketch.

See I drew a picture of ROD after he retired !!! That Old Dinosaur :happy-very:

Thanks MFB.:happy2:

This is true Heffernan, The GPS in the diad is deathly accurate!!!

Reminds me of an old Alan Parsons Project tune, "I am the eye in the sky, looking at you-oo-oo, I can read your mind."

It may be on the telematics system, I have seen that in action. I do know that when they print out the google earth map that shows where you were standing when you scanned a package and again when you stop completed, is not all that accurate. As far as I know we aren't live on the system yet.

With the telematics the sups will download the information the following morning, post it on the bulletin board for everybody to see, whoever has the most occurances,(such as:too much backing, bulk head door open too much, not wearing your seatbelt,etc..)and then you will be called into the office with a union steward present, and you will recieve either a verbal warning,or a written warning depending on how many times you did the occurance,i dont agree the results being posted, and there should be some leeway on certain things, like backing,on some routes like mine,I back a good 85% of the time, because I have no choice, its a residential route.lots of long (500ft+) and common driveways.

This may sound off-base, but I think it may be a good thing if your center-manager showed you this. He disclosed to you everything he can prove on paper that you performed the previous day.

It appears to me to be a fair warning. Most of us will look at the report and just obey the rules. Of course, there will be a few "not so smart" employees that will continue to ignore the new "diagnostics" (Thats what I like to refer to them as:happy2:) and will suffer the dicipline.

The part I don't understand is why would you do it and what could your defense be? If management has this evidence we will just look like fools unless we have a logical explination.

If you need to go off route during lunch, just ask your center manager. I have always been granted permission and it was more tha 3 miles one-way this valentines day.

I checked this off as a nice favor by the center team. I ran my errand on my time (my hour lunch) but used UPS's fuel (at 5-6 miles round-trip) to complete the errand.

It sounds like a lot of miles, but I'm routinely sent 2-3 miles off route to deliver ground misloads. Great that we made service on the parcel, but not so great that we lost money on the parcel once fuel and driver labor is calculated, e.g. $15 in just the driver's labor cost to deliver a package that produced $7 in revenue:dissapointed:.

A certain amount of airspace (visibility) is restricted by the government. I can't remember the exact footage? 60, 100 ft off the ground?

we are not online yet but i will act as though we are online the only thing i do that i should not is back into some driveways that are too long and no place to turn around in drive

Look inside the DIAD holder on the truck. There is a trigger at the bottom. I'm assuming that if you pull the DIAD out while the vehicle is in motion the trigger like device will activate. Maybe SoberUps can verify.

Walk em' off solider!
Yeah right, 1/4 mile unpaved "driveway" in the woods.
Zero turn around point, when you get to the shack( I mean the customers home) and the cur dogs meet you when you turn off the road.
Bag and drop at the road or backup to their crib and roll the O/S or over 70 pkgs out.
Maybe, telematrics should record video of what goes on outside the pkg car.
I have customers that have signs saying, "My dogs will bite", and they are serious.

Online here! All I can say is this WOW. The first few days felt weird like someone was watching me, i kept second guessing everything I did. I was fumbling around with the keys and the seatbelt all day. Remember the do it in "one single motion speech". I now have relaxed about the whole thing to be honest I really dont care about it at all, I close my door and always wear my belt so to me this whole thing is a non issue. The system can not detect if you may forget an address and have to look at board but it will register if you are doing work while engine running, such as stop completing something or closing out something.

I understand alot of people are upset about this and I am sure its just going to get worse. This telematics was meant for UPS to save money on there truck fleet, the bulk head door and seat belt prolly save them millions with the insurance company. This is all a win win for UPS and UPSers only problem will be when Management abuses this system to show us they are in control. Sad to say but looks like they just got another game to play with us.

I agree also people who put up signs warning of there dogs become liable because they are admitting they have a dog that may attack you.

Damned if you dont post about dog and damned if you do
