I used to take Amtrak from Old Greenwich, CT to Boston pretty regular when I lived there. And in 2018 took a train from Lviv to Kyiv, Ukraine. About half way across the country. Love trains. But love road trips in cars even more. And that's why we'll never again have train travel like we did back in the late 1800's. Unless they make personal travel in cars so expensive that we don't have a choice. One of the best ad slogans of all time: "It's not just your car it's your freedom."
My belief has been and remains that if they build a spur between downtown CHI and the Quad Cities, we would become the Far West suburbs.

I'll stipulate that the statement is correct for argument sake.

After you get to Chicago are you gonna then go to New Orleans or Memphis, how about Miami or Denver? Just a question, you tell me.

Why would I do that?

Probably go to a Bears game or Navy Pier. Might go job hunting. Never know.

ricky, I've been on the tube in London, Waterloo station to my destination. I've been from Colorado to California and Florida to Texas. Ohio to Miami, Cleveland to Ontario Canada, a rail was included one time, in London. We don't and can't operate like that.

I will add, I have been to the Brookpark station many times to take the rapid transit to Cleveland, always for a ballgame. I would never consider taking a train from Cleveland to Miami. Figure it out.

That's great. Awesome. Still hasn't translated into a power grid that can handle every new car being all electric. Where's the nuclear power plants? Where's the new refineries?
According to the US EIA electricity demand is expected to rise only by an average of 1% annually for the foreseeable future. Why? Perhaps Dr. Jeremy Siegel of the Wharton School of Business can tell you why. He pointed to the fact that today it only requires one fourth the amount of energy to produce a dollar of GDP than it did back in the 1970's .

As for refineries, how much production capacity do you think you need if the transition to EV's are well underway. In fact two weeks ago International which happens to be now owned by Volkswagen rolled out it's latest new road tractor model. Not a lot different than previous models except for a last ditch effort to make a bit more fuel efficient . But, they also made one fact clear regarding this newest model....It will also be the LAST road tractor they make that will be powered by a diesel engine.

Now if you just want to sit there all day letting Fox News scare you that's just fine. The rest of us have better things to do.

That’s an epic deflection/whatabout attempt.
its a two fold argument.

first it shows the "Q anon" threat" is not as significant as you dems hope and continue to hang your hats on. Truth be told I get about 95 percent of what i hear about them from the libs here who promote them as bogeymen of the right. Your side uses its media circus dogs to promote this story to make Q sound much more significant but as far as documented criminal acts there are very little on scale with other acts of criminality in this country. Even though Antifa stories are suppressed by the media i can easily find a lot more acts of criminality by them. So i guess were supposed to believe that Q is an imposing threat that may be harmful to us at some point in the future? The bogeyman hiding in the shadows?

second your side chooses to continue to ignore and deflect the criminality that occurs regularly in the ghetto's your side has provided people of color to live in. For all intents those ghettos are concentration camps for black america where people are economically forced to live in squallor and their future generations are encouraged to be exterminated through conveniently placed abortion centers.

the fact is if a person of color in one of those democrat provided living areas some survives pre birth extermination than chances are they will be killed at an early age by crime and violence.

now the fact is you dont really care about reality or about the living standards of those folks who die violent deaths every day as you care about scoring points in an argument to defend your political party.
the fact is your Q argument is nothing more than a deflection argument and yet you wish to complain about a return deflection that exposes your motives.

Show me in the U.S. where public transit is national? Not talking about interstate highways or airports that handle private transportation. Show me where other than Federal subsidies that the Federal government, especially the president, has the authority to create public systems for moving people? Amtrak hardly qualifies for the efficient movement of people locally.
i rode a light rail to a baseball game the other night. the return trip was a nightmare.
there are two destinations that run off of one light rail track.
they had it all screwed up so two trains running to the other destination ran back to back 45 minutes apart.
i waited an hour just to take the other train , then ubered from the closest station it ran to back to my car.
while waiting for that train i saw a field supervisor who told me she did not have the authority to recommond that one of the two be changed to get things back on line in the proper order.

mass transit at its finest in a democrat run city.

I'll pass on it ricky, I like my truck and car and the freedom associated with them when I travel. If I fly I rent a car or truck depending on where I choose to go.
I understand you like that type of travel, I don't prefer it. I don't mind paying for trips, if I did my other option is staying at home where I am content, actually thoroughly happy. I'm not a kid like you, my runnin days, just to run are over. I'd tell you if I was giving advice, don't be ashamed of making enough money to do as you'd like, every damn socialist leader has plenty of cash to do as they please.

Get a good truck or car and come visit our country again, next time post some pictures not just words.

Best to you ricky :thumbup1:

For some reason, high speed rail has never taken off in this country. I hear people say, “we can’t” and that’s just not true. Europe and Asia have been doing it for years.
probably because its been an extremely expensive boondoggle in California.
i would like to see some lines myself but is the cost really worth it .

Q anon is probably a government false flag like those FBI guys. Odd how nobody knows or has heard about any of them

Considering the cost of fares and the fact that our taxpayer money would pay for building them the answer is no.
If it was worth it a capitalist corporation would already have them up and running.
I'd like to see it myself, I loved trains since I was a boy. My grandfather worked for a railroad, my grandmother collected his railroad pension until the day she died.

@bbsam,
And yet we have an interstate highway system paid for by whom? A capitalist corporation? Lol. No.

@bbsam, I don't know why I didn't hit the reply, my mistake, sorry, my response to this:

We do, and everyone who has ever owned a car has used them. The same will never be said about any railroad.
Companies actually did begin building roads before the interstate system.
There has been a cross country railway, and rail tracks that covered the country. I know, I've been on some of them and they passed away for a reason.
bb, I think you are either young or have lived a sheltered life or both.

Nice words of wisdom ricky, thank you for that today.
I had some plans for today and the next few days to rid myself of some stuff, things that have been hard to part with. I'll remember what you said and you when I part with them.
Thanks ricky :thumbup1:

But the reason we like cars is because once you get to downtown then what? There's just more flexibility with a car. Although I admit driving in Chicago truly sucks.
