LOCAL BYLAWS
Please don’t make the mistake thinking that Local bylaws are some elaborate construction outlining democracy for the Teamster members written through some process with the good intentions to keep transparency and control for the members.
Bylaws are nothing more than a 90% reflection of what the International constitution states. The IBT Constitution is nothing more than a reflection of Federal Regulations mandated by the Department of Labor under the LMRDA (Labor Management Reporting Disclosure Act 1959).
The Feds will only enforce certain Titles that FORCE certain expectations like having TIMELY open elections and transparency with expenditures including wages. Everything else that false under the UNION MEMBERS BILL OF RIGHTS has to be enforced through a private attorney.
