UPS Synchronized Delivery

Based on the description above, it is the shipper of the package that is making the decision to delay the delivery of the package by a day in exchange for a better discount. If the shipper is making this decision, that's their call, not UPS'. The shipper has the option of relaying tracking info to their customer to keep them informed as to the delivery date. If the receiver has My Choice, they are fully aware of the scheduled day of delivery. Again, it's the shipper making the decision to delay delivery in exchange for a lower shipping cost - it's not UPS holding packages without consent of the shipper.

In the 2nd scenario listed, the package is arriving BEFORE the scheduled delivery date and we are holding it until the scheduled day of delivery, assuming there will be an additional package going to that address. The customer is still getting the package on the scheduled day of delivery so what's the issue?

The problem comes from the shipper not relaying that information to the customer, which many do with surepost. Also the service being used in ways not intended by management as a dispatch tool.

Might work if the shipper gives the customer "No Rush" shipping credits the same ways Amazon does.

Probably a valid point. Although, I do enjoy it whenever I make a delivery and the customer says something like "Wow, that was fast!", or "I wasn't expecting that until tomorrow/later this week!". Hopefully the company can balance the second scenario while still maintaining a reputation of being able to get "x" to the customer fast. Because I want to be their guy and the service they choose if they have that option.

So..... The customers want their stuff now and are demanding Saturday delivery.....AND.....The customers don't mind their packages held for an extra day because they don't need them right away....HUH?

Do they agree to it, or is it forced on them
Don't know, but hopefully they will have agreed to it, or otherwise the whole ground guarantee is no more. When you get free shipping, the shipper will choose the least costly for them, hence why surepost is so popular. Save a couple bucks, don't really care when it gets there.

There are 2 options.

Option 1:customer opts in to have their non-urgent UPS Ground packages eligible for holds, where matches are found the following day. This helps shippers save money in exchange for helping UPS build delivery density.

Option 2: a package arrives earlier than it was supposed to, UPS operations holds it for an additional day, to match other packages and build delivery density.

Paraphrased from UPSERS article
Split drivers in the old days did this all the time, no charge.

Leave it up to IE. That sounds like a massive fail if I've ever heard one.
Could be worse ... could leave it to you!
Has anyone else seen this" service "that UPS is rolling out?
It sounds a lot like the old rural remote delivery option that they used to have, but are leaving it up to IE to make to the decision as to when a delivery at an address is made.
The story is on UPSERS.com
UPS first announced these services back in 2015.
(Note: I was on the PLD based Notification Team of the 1995 PLD and this service was defined in 1995-1996 but the technology on the Operations side had to catch up. We had the DIAD development involved as well ... I imagine this may bypass the DIAD and DCS. DIAD development is always the longest time-lag in any new service being rolled out.
There are a portfolio of services under SD "Synchronized Delivery" (Trademark was applied for in July 2015).
Eventually, a shipper or "manager" of shipment can manage several accounts to designate SD.
UPS is offering these services as time-saving and UPS may offer shippers up to 10% off for affected packages.
These technology solutions will be managed by systems and not local (district) people.
Customer Automation technology is already in place to support the change in "Synchronized" Delivery Date supplied via tracking and the API's used by Amazon and other integrated shippers.

How many of you can remember when Second Day Air would be held at an air hub until it's scheduled delivery day?
I would think the priority would be based on service level.

I am talking about a concerted effort to hold 2DA at an air hub and release it on the scheduled delivery day.
This was SOP if a flight from the origin had capacity and 2DA was processed.
It would be held in Air Hubs such as Louisville,Philly or Orange Co until the flights out the next day.
I would assume they still do that if capacity exists.
UPS does not want to advance 2da to 1da since that will cannibalize the pricing differential between 1da and 2da.
UPS still loads 2da containers on 1da planes if there is capacity ... the processing air hub does not unload the 2da cans until the 2da sort after 1da leaves.
This allows the Air Hubs to have as much 2da to start the sort so the flow simulation can utilize the sort and load capacity.

Rural remote didn't work then ---this crap won't work now. People want their stuff now -- not tomorrow. If a package shows up with a tracking number as arrived at their local UPS center people expect it to be put on a truck for delivery that day. Keep trying you desk jockeys---one of these days you will come up with an actual good idea----maybe.
I purposefully delay the delivery of my packages if the shipper incents me and I don't need the item immediately.
I have received over $200 worth of free digital music (downloaded MP3) from Amazon using this incentive.

If there is a way to abuse the system they will find a way. Hide missed and LIB using this system are just two ways I see it being abused
Of course they will ... they being any UPS local Operations employee.
Drivers been doing this stuff before you and I were even born.
