Good god---you can't even gather enough support to strike during a National Contract and you think the troops would strike for 35 suits wanting to unionize in Louisville? Dream on.

To be fair more non union staff functions last week got the walking papers also. UPS been cutting specialist positions and now pt staff functions are getting cut also. Heard more coming next yet with admins. This doesn't seem like just a union thing. The head of marketing from the company also got cut today. That new contact is just expediting the cuts it seems. Company not looking to report a loss come the 1st quarter of the year. It was clearly coming. If I am an OMS I would get a head start finding somthing outside the company.

UPS has to pay big because of this last contract so expect big headaches coming. After every contract UPS finds ways to make up for the extra money the company has to pay out so buckle up cupcakes 2024 is going to be a bumpy ride.

Nope, sorry. Gave to the Central. Not giving any more.

"If UPS doesn't get its act together, they'll be on strike next. Our union will not hesitate to act, and we will not back down," said O'Brien, who represented some 340,000 UPS workers in a contract deal reached earlier this year

They raised rates 40% since the last contract. Couldn’t they use some of that money?

They raised rates pretty much every year even contract years in the past. From my experience, of almost 40 yrs there and many contracts I lived through, they always try to get more out of the drivers and start trimming the fat (letting people go) after a contact where they had to pay out more money. This contact plus the economy starting to tank is going to get UPS very creative in the way they save money. Enjoy the raise because there is always a price to pay. 2024 is going to be interesting.

Did you notice a difference between before and after they went public?

Yes, it went from a company that stood with the drivers to a company that kissed the @ss of the customer and worried about every dollar. When it went public is when all the small perks (gifts of appreciation) started to disappear.

Did that effect how hard they cut and penny pinched after contracts?

It seemed to have gotten worse after going public. You have to remember that now they are public they are always trying to beat “the numbers” from the quarter before to keep the stock holders happy. Now they are always chasing numbers and trying to figure out how to keep those numbers looking good for investors. Before going public this would not have been as big of a concern. With a dropping economy and a huge contract I can’t imagine what the bean counters are up to right now.
